* boards a transport plane to greet returning wounded soldiers - pics
Edited on Tue Jul-10-07 05:16 PM by Kadie
He looks a little annoyed in the pics below that the crew members are not paying much attention to him.

6. Wouldn't those thirty also be on stretchers and with medical
support personnel? I dunno, but I feel compelled to ask.

I think Bush look pissy, too. Seems like he's old news to the crew.

13. That plane is basically a flying hospital. With an intensive care facility.

from the link:

"""Now, C-17 Air Force cargo planes, converted into flying intensive care units, transport the injured to hospitals in the United States — usually with a stop in Germany — within a few days. This means admission to facilities with the highest standards of care and, just as important, far easier access to family and friends."""

16. Okay, I saw the part of the captions that said "some or all...injured."
It seems to me if they're seriously enough injured to need "(flying) intensive care units", it might make a little more sense to get them on the road to recovery before transporting them 6000 miles. We could build one hell of a fancy well-equipped hospital over there for what a C17 costs and if reuniting with family is important, hell, fly the families THERE in a plane that doesn't cost $50000 an hour to run.

17. I think the most important use of that plane is the trip from iraq to Germany.....
.....where the state of the art facilities are located. The on-board ICU provides for a seamless chain of care; doing away with the traditional concept of 'stabilization' before transport. The system has been credited as one of the reasons for the extraordinarily high survival rate.

Pretty neat, if you axe me.

19. That makes good sense to me, get them out of the occupation zone
while giving them the best possible care...but why the trip from Germany to the US? Is the hospital in Rhein-Main substandard? If it is, that needs to be rectified.

3. Just what the troops want to see: Commander 26%.
He's the reason they're injured in the first place. If he hadn't lied for the benefit of his corporate cronies, they'd probably be living their lives happily instead of trying to piece their injured bodies back together.

The man has no shame, or he'd never be able to show his face in front of true heroes.

9. Totally clueless, he is. If not for him, there would be no photo op with injured troops.
Which is all this amounts to, for him. No shame at all.
