Speaking of . . . the White House dispatched the very ill Tony Snow to make the morning TV talk show rounds to quiet the rumors that Bush's latest latest latest surge in Iraq is a total and complete failure. "What Congress will get this week is a snapshot of the beginning of the retooling of the mission in Iraq," said Tony Snow, who defended the administration's war policy and argued that it's too soon to be talking about end-game strategies. "Some of the benchmarks have been made, some of them haven't," he said.

A leaked pentagon report on progress in Iraq, which is to be officially released later this week, allegedly states that the Maliki government in Iraq has met none of the political or economic benchmarks both Republicans and Democrats demanded as measurement of success in this illegal and unholy slaughter of Americans and Iraqis. This failing report card will be released just in time for the Senate debate on a $649 billion defense policy bill and vote on a Democratic amendment ordering troop withdrawals to begin in 120 days.

So will Congress now - with so many Republican defectors - finally do something to stop Bush's bloody massacre?

29. Poor little Peewee had a seizure last night

She's suffered from them for a number of years. It looks just like an epileptic episode - her body goes rigid and snaps back and forth, she foams at the mouth, her pupils go all huge, and her tongue hangs out. She also looses bladder control. Afterward she's disoriented, so I try to hold her while she's seizing so she'll feel secure when she comes to.

The vet says that epilepsy is common in dogs, but not in cats.

We're just a little feline ER around here, aren't we?

70. She seems to be OK now.

Right after an episode she is really skittish and creeps around with her head scanning side to side like she's not sure where she is. She's been having these for about 5 years. Now she's downstairs curled up on her special spot on the rug. (We don't know why she likes to sit there, but she does.)

The vet's prescribed Diazapam, which seems to reduce the seizures but has the side effect of making her sluggish. Since she's had a couple of seizures over the past month or so, I guess we're going to have to go back on the meds. (A couple of weeks ago we heard a crashing sound and found a pile of books that had been stacked on the stairway at the bottom of the stairs, along with a telltale puddle of cat pee - apparently Peewee had been on the landing when she had a fit and went right down the stairs along with all the books.

It's so sad. She's such a little love. But we had her thoroughly checked out and she doesn't appear to have a brain tumor, which can sometimes generate these symptoms.

42. Actually, I think it was the All-Star Game!

All the streets in Walnut Creek, where I work, were gridlocked. It took several cycles of traffic lights to get through. I kinda thought everybody must've rushed out of work at once to get home. (It's across the Bay in San Francisco this year.)

I have *ick* Larry King on now, with the sound turned down. They have a split screen with Michael Moore on the left and Sanjay Gupta on the right. Every time I look up at the screen, Michael Moore's mouth is running a mile a minute and Sanjay is blinking furiously! I hope MM's really ripping him a new one.

Just like Katrina victims. Mr. catnapper and I love New Orleans. We went down there for our anniversary this May - first time since Katrina - and we discovered that the loathing we had for this bunch of criminals was even deeper and more intense than we'd thought possible.

The * admin left that city to die. We were appalled at the condition of an American city nearly 2 years after a "natural" (we know how much deliberate neglect contributed to the devastation) disaster.

Yes, we took the Grayline "Katrina" tour. People here (in CA) look at us like we're a couple of ghouls, but I had heard that it was mandatory to see for yourself the extent of the disaster. And did it ever pound it home. We tell everyone we know about the criminal abuse of one of the US's most valuable and beloved communities.

Mr. catnapper and I knew from living in the Bay Area during the '89 earthquake, that there's a time to stay away and a time to go into the area and generate some tourist dollars. Knowing how dependent NO is on the "hospitality" trade, we just flew in and ate and drank and toured and talked up a storm. We like to sit at the bars in oyster houses and jazz joints and talk to the locals. We heard story after story after story of people on their roofs for 3 days, of pushing elderly people in shopping carts to the Convention Center.

As far as the * administration is concerned, they are damned to hell for eternity for the way they neglected and abused these people. They make me sick.:puke:

Our neighbors, the only Dem friends in the hood, and the ones whose cats we watch out for when they're away...

They were on vacation with his mom, sister and before they left his wife was anxious as his mother's health has been going downhill for the past 3 yrs. and accelerated during the past yr. Anyway, his Mom loved to travel and insisted that they go on this trip. I was stunned when I saw their car in the driveway, and I was leary of calling to find out why they're home. She called to inform me that her MIL had died while they were away. I know they're hurting. :hi:

I don't know!

I think they're still somewhat stunned even though she died Sat. night after they all went to bed. Right now I think they're where I was when my Dad died. He loved to play golf, and he did on a beautiful day. He had a great day and died in his sleep. She loved to travel and really wanted to go on this trip. She was with her children, daughter in law, and her grandchildren doing something that she truly enjoyed.

I'm sure we'll be helping out with food and we'll be here for any needed distractions or tearful discussions. :hi: :hug:

Mr. catnapper idolized his Dad, and as the years went by I just dreaded the thought of the inevitable. One night Mr. catnapper was on the phone with his Dad talking about football and guy stuff. It was late and his Dad was about to retire. A few hours later, my MIL called to say that FIL had simply moaned in his sleep and stopped breathing. Mr. catnapper knew that his Dad passed peacefully in his sleep, and that just a couple of hours earlier he had spoken his last words to his father: "I love you, Dad".

Lots happened today. Snow-job, Chuckle-nuts saying he's waiting for what the generals say about Iraq, but we all know they won't say what needs to be said or they'll get canned, and if they do say it, Bush* won't listen.

Dr. Cordara came out to say how Bushco politicized the Surgeon General's job. Sounds Rovian to me.

PBS had a former National Review writer (Dreher) on saying he's sorry he ever supported the war and listen to the Bush lies. Everytime I turned on the tv Bush was sinking further and further. 29% on Gallup now. We might get a terrorist attack any day. I'll be back in about 45 minutes, I hope.
