Al Qaeda Cell in the U.S. Or On Its Way...

Al Qaeda Cell in the U.S. Or On Its Way, According to New Intel Share

July 10, 2007 6:30 PM

Senior U.S. intelligence officials tell ABC News new intelligence suggests a small al Qaeda cell is on its way to the United States, or may already be here.

The White House has convened an urgent multi-agency meeting for Thursday afternoon to deal with the new threat.

Top intelligence and law enforcement officials have been told to assemble in the Situation Room to report on:

--what steps can be taken to minimize or counter the threat,

--and what steps are being taken to harden security for government buildings and personnel.

"It suggests they have information that the cell or cells coming this direction want to attack a government facility," Brad Garrett, a former FBI agent and ABC News consultant, said.

Chertoff Says U.S. Summer Brings Higher Terror Risk

Jeff Bliss Tue Jul 10, 7:12 PM ET

July 10 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. faces an increased threat of attack in the next month and a half based on terrorists' past activity, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said.

Chertoff told the Chicago Tribune editorial board earlier today that he had a ``gut feeling'' of the heightened risk. Chertoff has no plans to raise the general threat level from yellow, or elevated, or the airline threat from orange, or high, said Laura Keehner, a Homeland Security Department spokeswoman.

``There is no intelligence to suggest a specific imminent threat,'' she said.

Chertoff's feeling stems from Islamic terrorists showing an inclination recently to attack in the spring and summer in the U.S. and Europe, such as the March 2004 Madrid train bombings and the July 2005 explosions that ripped through three London subway stations and a bus, Keehner said.

Intelligence officials told lawmakers earlier this year that al-Qaeda was reorganizing itself after the U.S. captured or killed several of its senior leaders, including Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks.

My gut feeling: Fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here was, is and always will be utter B***S***! Bring the troops home.

3. Hmm... Interesting timing...
Little more than a week since the Prez pardoned Scooter "Guilty" Libby, and mere DAYS after we hear that the draft of the September report on how the surge is going says that no benchmarks have been met, and there has been little to no progress... Hmm... VERY interesting timing, if you ask me.

KO is going to have to add another example to his on-going series about the politicization of terror.

31. Never hurts to be prepared!
You are smart :)

You never know when an emergency situation might happen. Alot of my friends have been putting together supplies just in case, especially with weather/nature events seeming to intensify. Crank powered radios, those flashlights that you power by shaking them, canned food, bottled water, etc.

Never know when you might need them!

7. amazing
The most militarized nation of the world is shaking in fear because of couple of crazed muslims decided to get on the plane and go to united states to kill some americans. And how invading other countires is supposed to prevent that from happening? Don't we lose more people to car accidents and more buildings to natural disasters than to terrorism? I live near NYC and I don't give a fuck, I am more worried about being stabbed at the bar than being killed by terrorists; sometimes it seems our nation lost its collective mind ovet this shit

12. Who is shaking in fear?
Everytime I see one of these threads that says these news reports are meant to raise fear in the public, I wonder who they are thinking about.

Who do you know that has changed any of their behavior because of these reports?

Deez nuts vote just like me and you. And I find freerepublic to be a fairly representative mindset of the 30% of the voting US population, and they try their darnest to influence anybody who would listen to them.

But back to your original question, yes, I do know quite a few people who are nuts like that from work. It's real. I have seen it !!!

Then again, I work for the government. And not very nice part of the government either.

14. That's EXACTLY what the dictatortot$ who stole the preznitency
want...

Whenever they feel their sham of a war for oil domination is at risk of getting cut-off...

They think a "new Pearl Harbor" (or just the FEAR of a "new Nine Elev") will bring back
the sheep to the barn doors...

All the while, never mind the tons of toxic materials their cronies' industries release
up in the air and/or dump straight into the river streams around them just because they
don't wanna pay to clean up their own poison!

"Why should we care? It will hurt our bottom-lines!" :grr:

19. It's a set-up
It seems obvious to me, with Bush insisting on staying in Iraq and Chertoff's gut talking to him, that they are planning something big for us all. I wonder how much they're paying the "Al Queda cell." It seems like they have to pull off something rather spectacular to get everybody back in line.

34. one way to tell that the terrorist threat is a complete and utter hoax-
Edited on Tue Jul-10-07 11:11 PM by QuestionAll
since 9/11, there have been 6 xmas shopping seasons in the u.s., and not a single suicide bomber has targeted a shopping mall on the friday after thanksgiving, nor anytime during the holiday shopping seasons.

(if the 'terra-ists' wanted to fuck with us, and/or our economy, that would be a doozey of a way to get it done, and they obviously must know that, if they know about short-selling airline stocks)

or-

how about legally renting/buying a high-rise condo/apartment(or several) and slowly overtime turning it into a HUGE bomb- think oklahoma city, and what they did with a rental truck...now imagine an entire apartment loaded with a fertilizer bomb, or worse- and maybe even some 55 gallon drums of nails and/or really nasty chemical or radioactive waste.

i've never been much of a mihop, or even lihop type person- i firmly believe that it was the planes and their aftermath that brought down all the wtc buildings that came down, and i know for a fact that it was an airliner that struck the pentagon.
BUT- i do find it strange that the only terra-ist attack we've been subject to was so perfectly conveniently opportune- in timing and effect, for this criminal cesspool of a mis-administration.
especially considering the previous close ties between poppy's 'crew' and osama bin forgotten.
