On CSPAN3 at 5am: LIBBY TESTIFIES--as Marc Rich's attorney in 2001 GOP probe
Edited on Tue Jul-10-07 10:52 PM by ProgressiveEconomist
As lead-ins to John Conyers's Judiciary hearing into Dubya's Libby clemency last week (see http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x1298536 ), CSPAN3 is rebroadcasting REPUBLICAN hearings from 2001 lambasting Bill Clinton for his Marc Rich pardon.

Ironically, Rich's attorney was--I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby!

Libby himself testifies in the hearing to be rebroadcast from 5am to 8am. Set your PVRs and VCRs!

Witnesses testified about presidential pardons granted in the final days of the Clinton administration, and particularly about the pardon of financier Marc Rich. Ms. Dozoretz appeared but refused to testify about her fundraising efforts on behalf of the Democratic Party, invoking her constitutional right against self-incrimination. Former White House aides then testified that they had opposed several pardons and talked about the process by which the pardons were granted. Program ID 162914

1. Hmmm More dirt on Sen Thompson surfaced just now in Pardon Hearing #1
John Podesta testified that a "high double-digit or low triple digit" number of last-minute pardon requests came in from Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle, AFTER it was too late for the normal pardon process to take place.

Podesta mentioned specifically that a pardon request for "Mr Lake" came from Sens Hatch and Thompson.

As head of Libby's Defense Committee, has Thompson pointed a finger at Bill Clinton as having somehow set a precedent for Dubya's hush-clemency for his pal Scooter? Someone should ask Thompson how much Lake paid him for his intercession at the end of Y2K.
