Snowe Embraces Troop Withdrawal Bill
WASHINGTON (AP) - Sen. Olympia Snowe on Wednesday became the second Republican to embrace a bill ordering troops out of Iraq as President Bush's national security adviser tried to stop defections from the White House war policy. Snowe, R-Maine, joined Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Ore., in co-sponsoring a bill that would require troops to start leaving in 120 days. The bill also would end combat by April 30, 2008.

1. Good for her even tho she just got re-elected and is safe for another 6 years.
But having lived in Maine for awhile, I am not surprised that she is doing this.

24. True and at some point there will be a payback.
But if we must deal with republicans, I'd rather deal with one who has the ability to reason.

23. My statement to the dinner table the other evening: "You know, you need a few Republicans for the
purpose of debate and putting out alternative views, like say, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins and Mayor Lindsay...amd you know, I sorta like John Warner, too." To which the table agreed!

31. go back a few on her record and you will see that not only is she
not doing this for anything more than her longterm welfare, but she probably won't stop voting for him anyway. she likes to get it on the news and then do what she wants anyway. she's worse than those who go down with the ship. she even looks like a rat.

3. WOO HOO! The SS Bush is sinking like the Titanic, and everyone wants to get a lifeboat
before they're all gone.

I predict there will be many more abandoning the bad ship Bush soon.

Snowe
Domenici
Hagel
Gordon Smith
Lugar

I know I'm missing some.

It would be awesome if we could get enough to overturn a veto.

28. We need 17 solid votes
Edited on Wed Jul-11-07 11:44 AM by Strawman
to override. 51-49 minus Joe = 50. We need 67 votes in the Senate, 290 in the house.

I'm skeptical of anyone who can't even vote for cloture on the Webb Amendment. By September, it may be different. Hopefully.

Right now I'd say we're at least 11 votes short.

And they found enough Republicans to filibuster the Webb measure.

I'd like to see the roster on that one.

15. It's not clear that she's actually "defecting"
What I was hearing in the past several days was that Cons would be calling for a change in direction blah, blah, blah BUT (big BUT here)...in that ever so lovely spirit of staying loyal to the Party they would not vote with the Democrats. Instead, what they're going to do is craft their own Bill and won't sign onto a Bill with Democrats.

By doing it that way, they put the ball in their court challenging Democrats by say, "Do you want a change in direction or do you just want to play politics and take credit for a change?" harumpf!

21. That's the thing! Another upperdown non-binding resolution
that they can take back home and say, "SEE??? I voted to end this! In fact, I co-sponsored the Bill that said to the President we must end this!"

Pisses me off they pull this crap, and it pisses me off that they play politics 24/7 with each and every move they make.

the Webb Amendment today, so she may be in, also Voinovich. NOT SPECTOR. I don't believe Spector for a minute, we can't count on his vote. He is a lying sack of sh*t.
