Is Adultry a sin God would forgive so easily?
I was under the impression God considered adultry a capital sin worthy of being put to death....Vitter said quite casually that he talked to God and God forgave him..

5. Picking up sticks on the Sabbath is a capital crime
Putting a stick where it doesn't belong has got to be worse.

But to be fair the NT does claim to change things. Where adherence to the law was the focus of the OT forgiveness and mercy were much of the focus of the NT. So he can make the claim. As to whether he is forgiven... if there is any truth to the bible then I would suspect he would have to understand how he was wrong and internalized it. In order to be forgiven one has to understand what one did wrong. Just saying "Oops, my penis fell in that hooker" doesn't cut it.

11. Forgiveness is at the forefront of Christian beliefs. That's why this stuff
is so funny. These so-called Christians have hijacked the true beliefs for their warped sensibilities.

17. He pretty much played his only card "I've asked forgiveness"
We'll see if those words encase him in teflon like others of his ilk caught with their pants down.

14. From a theological standpoint, a sin is a sin is a sin.
Only when they get caught do the fundies resort to moral relativism, something that they always use against their opponents.
