Interesting development with a RW friend who bleeds Republican. |
This man and his wife are like a mom and dad to me, so we just avoid politics, but when I was at his house Monday evening and talking with his wife I noticed that he was watching the pre Fourth of July KO condemnation of Bush and Cheney on his computer, where KO demands that they should resign. He watched the entire thing without switching it which is what I expected. Maybe more and more of the kool aide drinkers are coming around?

1. OK, did he or YOU say anything at all? |
I would have had to at least ask "What did you think?"

6. No, I let that sleeping dog lay. But it was very telling that he watched the entire thing. |
I knew he was thinking about it and it was more effective to just let the whole thing churn in his head. You would have to know him to understand. Saying something would have spoiled the moment. When he is ready, he will say it without it looking like I was throwing it in his face. Some months back when I suggested that he might feel embarrassed about being a Republican he literally jumped out of his chair to say not to tell him how he feels and that was no mean feat for a man with 2 artificial hips and knees.

9. What he did in watching it was quietly big. |
Not only did he watch all of it, he made no negative comments about any of it. Even his wife and I stopped talking and we all watched the rest until the end. For me it was a quiet and simple testimony that the worm has turned and the end is coming.

2. Slowly but surely even the 29% will erode... |
There gets to a point, in the face of obvious gross misconduct, where even the loyal party base starts to walk away from the leadership.
I think that point is coming soon.

3. The only thing that makes a difference is how they vote. |

4. A similar and sad situation |
My brother in law was a bush backing, war supporting son of a gun in 03 when his son was in the 8th grade. Now that he will soon be a senior, the war all of a sudden is a cause for concern. That sucks hind tit so to speak. His sister (my wife) was the only one of his siblings who ever served in the military.

5. Boss, your BIL suffers from something all RW's have |
and that is, in a nutshell, a form of empathy. Now that his son is getting older and draft age, a big light bulb appears over his head. Now this can really affect HIM. I know I may be using a broad brush, but every right winger I know is like this.

7. We don't chat politics much except local stuff |
but about a year after the war started I made my two cents publicly known and that we should leave Iraq (that was in 04.) My bil's response? "We are already there." We get along great. I love all my in laws but some of them are way to the right. My wonderful mother in law is a lifelong kickass democrat as was my dearly departed FIL who lost his arm in WWII. She was a hoot ranting and raving about all the waste that went into reagans funeral. Hard to imagine she gave birth to three republicans and one wonderful democrat (my wife, and the only one of her kids to serve in the military.)

10. So my sister and her husband are OFF Bush -- BUT |
will probably STILL vote Rethug due to Dem hatred via Pox News. They will rationalize that the new nominee is NOT Bush and not go the extra thought that it is the REPUBLICANS causing all the misery.
Hope I am wrong -- but already my sister says she really "likes" Romney. All I could say is "Well, he sure has shiny teeth and good hair and lots of money. Too bad his wife has MS and he is against embryonic stem cell research." She didn't say anything and changed the subject.
