People for the American Way (PFAW) Continues Dishonest Lobbying Campaign for Holt Election Bill
Take Action to Counter Their Unapologetically Deceptive, Anti-Democracy Efforts to Misinform Nancy Pelosi!

People for the American Way (PFAW) -- previously the "good guys" in many a fight for your democracy -- continues their dishonest and misleading campaign to support Rep. Rush Holt's dangerous Election Reform Bill (HR 811).

The bill, as written -- despite our having helped to draft it prior to introduction -- currently fails on a number of levels. Most notably, its institutionalization of the use of disenfranchising Direct Recording Electronic (DRE) touch-screen voting machines for all of America. Such machines use secret, unverifiable, invisible ballots to count your vote.

As HR 811 comes towards the U.S. House floor for a vote, PFAW is ramping up their efforts by sending out emails to member requesting they call Nancy Pelosi's office at (202) 225-4965.

We suggest you do the same. But demand that Pelosi amend the bill to include a ban on DRE voting systems or otherwise vote against the bill.

1. Um, What are you talking about?!? This looks like a good bill to me and to...
...216 co-sponsors in the House, and by Common Cause, MoveOn, SEIU, the National Education Association, the Brennan Center, the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Vote Trust USA, Verified Voting, and prominent voting technology experts Avi Rubin and Ed Felten and of coarse People For the American Way and People.

Links to the Bill here: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:h.r.00811:
(note: If this link takes you to a nearly blank page, click the Thomas Home link at the top of the page and then search for HR811 there)

And from what I've read at PFAW's website (at the links below), I see nothing deceptive about what they are writing about this bill.

Brad, I usually agree with you an most issues, but your campaign against PFAW is going to destroy all your hard fought for credibility unless you present some hard evidence of what you are alleging, which I do not see, so far.

PWAW is not a perfect organization now and was wrong about a few things during the 2004 election (when I worked for their Election Protection campaign here in Georgia), but I see nothing sinister here.

I have suffered through 3 (2002, 2004, and 2006) state and national Diebold controlled so-called "elections" here in Georgia, ALL 3 of them were hacked and in all three, my Democratic representatives were replaced by Diebold selected ReThuglican "representatives," and I've seen very little by effort by you and Bev Harris to help us Democrats here Georgia, this Bill will help A LOT if it's passed.

If even half of what is contained in this bill becomes law, it will increase my confidence that my Vote will be counted by 100%, as I currently have ZERO confidence that my vote was counted in 2002, 2004, 2006 and maybe even before that, as the Optical scan machines we used before 2002 were just as easy, if not more so, to hack.

This Bill might not be perfect, but it would be a HELL of a lot better than what we have now in Georgia.
