1. Let him know.
He has been gotten too IMO (as other dems were right before the election). I still struggle with why.

4. Pelosi put some kind of a stranglehold on him
He is also removing anyone wearing pink from his hearings.

5. Just getting to see Conyers for the first time?
He's NEVER been flamboyant. He's always been measured and reflective in his speaking. An entertainer he isn't.

6. You should pay a lot more attention to what he says than how he says it
Because if the White House has any three people on this earth to fear he is in that group (along with Waxmann and Leahy).

7. I can appreciate your sentiments-
However, throughout his career, Mr. Conyers has adhered to strict standards that portray him as the consummate gentleman he is.
The real proof of the pudding is in what he does, now.

Expect more subpoenas with a much sharper bite to to them. No matter how much we want and expect a knight in shining armor to come riding through, sword slashing, the wheels will turn at their own rate. (I like my metaphors well mixed.)

That rate is much more rapid with democrats in charge, but legal web-building requires an enormous amount of attention to detail and protocol.
I would not condemn John Conyers too soon--look at how much is now being discovered and shown to the public. Those things will not change minds who have become committed to a singular point of view, but those with a modicum of fairness in their makeup will listen more closely and consider more thoughtfully before welding everything shut.

A king or dictator could declare the outcome before input, but a democracy demands persuasion and that's what's going on now.

8. So go get William Jennings Bryan if you want an orator
Edited on Wed Jul-11-07 05:25 PM by DFW
JC is in his seventies and has had a serious stroke which
hampers his speech somewhat. It has NOT altered his mind,
which has forgotten more law than most lawyers will ever
learn. If you're gonna dis the guy, do it for his words,
not his delivery. He has had a stroke and keeps fighting.
I salute the man. Bobby Kennedy, Jr. has had serious asthma,
and it has affected his speaking voice, too, which trembles.

Bobby's voice may tremble, but he does not.

In both cases, the words are what counts, not whether or not
one of them is the new "great communicator." If I want an actor,
I'll get Fred Thompson.

10. Conyers is one of the most effective progressives this country has ever seen.
He's done more to enforce our right to a democracy than almost any other Democrat--which you might know if you bothered to follow real news about real Democrats as opposed to just evaluating them on the basis of how "exciting" they sound on t.v.

Buy a clue. Then use it to go buy some books. Come back when you have a working knowledge of what is left of our government, then we'll talk.
