Snow Lashes Out At White House Press Corps, Calls Them ‘Defeatists’

During today’s White House press conference, Press Secretary Tony Snow again tried to deny the fact that prominent conservative members of Congres are increasingly abandoning the President’s failing policies in Iraq. Sen. Dick Lugar’s sharp critiques of the President’s Iraq policies were merely pleas for “some bipartisan comity,” Snow said.

One reporter asked Snow if delusional characterizations of conservative defections would cause the American people to “perceive you and the White House as isolated and out of touch on this?” Snow responded, “No, no more than I think that they look at you and think that you guys are focused on defeat.” The press room erupted in groans.

“Wait a minute. That’s not my question,” the reporter shot back. Snow lashed out in his defense, “You just asked me if I’m clueless and I asked if you were defeatist.”

The fact is that conservatives in Congress and the American people are abandoning the President’s Iraq strategy in record numbers. Just 19% of Americans see the surge as a success and in the Senate today seven Republican senators defied their leadership and voted in support of a measure that would have limited the number of troops available for deployment in Iraq.

11. Well, whatever. My point is that I think he's got cancer and I think it's gonna get him.
Like Jennings. Who didn't want to go home, lay down and die, and worked as long as he could.

That's the point I was making.

Snow's not a journalist, though. He's a spokesperson for the Bush Administration. He's unusual in that he came from media, but he's not a journalist. An advocate for Bush. A Spinmeister.

of course, being defeated in detail at the time.

5. What, the poor bastard can't count to TEN?
We're getting close to veto-proof, at least on Iraq.

See what going after those 22 vulnerable GOP seats can do?

If your GOP Senator is up for reelection in 08, call him up and promise you'll vote for him if he "gets correct" on Iraq.

You can cross your fingers while you're making that promise.

As for Tony, I get the feeling that guy is sick. Sicker than we know. I think he's dying. He just does not look well at all.

Sometimes when people are sick, they can't keep their temper like they normally would be able to. That was a totally childish exchange--Tony should know better, having been on the other side of the wire. When they groan at you like that, you've lost the point.

Fuck you, Tony. I'm sorry you're sick but that doesn't excuse you for being an asshole apologist for a bunch of scumbags.

12. Well, think about it from his perspective. Where can he go at this point?
He's hitched his wagon to the wrong damned star....and it's a runaway wagon at this point. He's made his bed, there's no going back.

19. He is really the dumbest so far...
Hell, Ari and Scottie must've seen the writing on the wall...both probably feeling like they'd won in some awful "russian roulette" game.

The fact that Snow took on this train-wreck in progress is proof of his hubris ("hey I can change all this and be a hero") and his contempt for the law, the truth, and The People.

I have no pity for him, & none for his masters.

22. Either that, or it could have been not hubris, but a sense that he'd last about
as long as the job would. Every time I see the guy, he looks sicker. Like he's fading away.

Ari and Scottie saw illegal shit going down, I think--Scottie more than Ari. Ari was just the "front man" while Scottie came WITH the Monkey from Texas. That's why I think they ran as soon as they decently could.

Be interesting to get those two in front of a Senate or House Committee....

10. Once a Freeper always a Freeper
Ask Tony about his time as a Freeper or how he promulgated the story that
the Clinton people stole all the Ws from the keyboards on the computers
@ the White House.

Tony knows the #s are going aginst the War in the Senate ... Lugar, Voinivich,
Snowe, Smith, Hagel, Warner, Coleman, Collins, Sununu, & Domenici have flipped
or are going to flip and with Tim Johnson coming back the White House just will
not have the #s.

14. Yep, it is 'count those noses, and stop when ya hit sixty' time!
Anyone wanna place book on which way Lieberman will vote?

We'll need to recruit an extra to cover for him....

There are 22 vulnerable GOP seats on the block in 2008. If we can get most of those guys, that would be a very good thing.

20. They're cracking up....
Per Gnarls Barkley:

I remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that phase.
Even your emotions had an echo
In so much space

And when you're out there
Without care,
Yeah, I was out of touch
But it wasn't because I didn't know enough
I just knew too much

Does that make me crazy
Does that make me crazy
Does that make me crazy
Probably
