Bush's sarcastic response sends a girl into tears (13 years old)

Although his biting sarcasm in response to unfriendly questions can make members of the White House press corps grumble under their breath, President Bush got a different reaction from a 13-year-old girl who asked him about immigration during a forum in Ohio.

The Washington Times reports Jessica Hackerd was left in tears after Bush gave her a wry "yeah, thanks" in response to her query, drawing laughter from the crowd of 400 in Brecksville, Ohio Tuesday. Bush immediately began to backpedal when he saw the reaction from Hackerd, who told the Times she was crying because she is very shy and was nervous questioning the president.

"No, it's a great question. No, I appreciate that," Bush said, before giving a more-than-1,100-word answer about the death of his immigration bill.

The 13-year-old, who was at the forum with her parents and younger sister, continued to wipe tears from her eyes for several minutes, the Times reported, and Bush again tried to encourage the young girl.

"It's a great question by the way, and I'm glad you asked it," he said.

---

Jessica, in the interview, said that she was crying because she was so nervous.

But when the president's sarcastic answer was mentioned, she said, "I heard that too."

---

But when the president finished taking questions, an aide immediately went to Jessica and took her backstage.

After Mr. Bush had finished shaking hands for over 10 minutes, he met with Jessica and her family.

"He said it was really brave of me to do that and he said he probably wouldn't have been able to do that," Jessica said. "And he said it was the first time anybody had asked him about since it happened."

Jessica said she did not say much besides, "Thanks."

Hope Jessica becomes a Democrat. And the Bushbot crowd laughed! Come over from the dark side Jessica, most Democrats are not sarcastic jerks like the jerk in chief and his idiot Bushbots. I can't imagine Hillary or Bill, Obama, Edwards or any Dem being sarcastic to a youngster asking a question.

1. What a great guy ... makes a kid cry.
Of course, he's make thousands of family members of all ages cry without any regret, with the killing in Iraq.

Many, many family members have received a 'life sentence' of crying.

DimSon is a disgrace!

3. Yeah, I saw that at Raw Story, too
Perfect Metaphor!

Bush picking on a 13 year old girl in public because he can't handle
adults like Helen Thomas.

Just like Bush picking on Saddam's inept military because he was told that
both Iran and North Korea would really shoot back, and Grenada and Panama
were already taken.

Bush then tried to make up for it by giving the girl and her family the
"privilege" of meeting with Bush backstage. He probably doesn't even realize
that his august presence does not impress everyone as being a privilege.
I wonder if he even has doubts when Cheney tells him to fetch or roll over and
play human............

4. Holy shit.
He thinks it's acceptable to treat a 13 year old with the same harshness (read: abusiveness) that he would a WH reporter? Not like I'm surprised, but that is just the most disturbing evidence yet of how psychologically FUBARed W. is.

6. Note the part re: the girl being the first to ask him about immigration lately
since the final crashing and burning of Bush's big bill.

What does THAT tell you?

22. Seriously!
If a young girl is the FIRST to ask the Prez about his bill's failure, or if it's the first time he's actually HEARD that question, that's just BEYOND pathetic!

10. Wow, looks like he's really in CYA mode to go to such lengths to patch up that situation.
He did more work trying to make a conciliatory gesture to that 13-year-old than he's ever done for anyone else he's offended.

11. Bush wouldn't cry about a life sentence
He'd just sit there and smirk, say "who's gonna make me?" and
have Baker appeal it to his hand-picked Supreme Abort and get
his sentence commuted to half an hour's community service at
a barbecue in an affluent all-white "Christian" neighborhood.

If we can't get impeachment on the issues, maybe we can get it for making a little girl cry.

Whatever works.

18. Great, so I guess Bush aides told her to lie too
I wonder what she got in exchange for her silence.

...when the president finished taking questions, an aide immediately went to Jessica and took her backstage.

Jessica, in the interview, said that she was crying because she was so nervous.

19. "drawing laughter from the crowd"
It sure sounds like a typical bush crowd -- either mindless "supporters" or else the moribund press corpse.

"Yeah, he's a crook and war criminal. But I like him 'cause he's funny and I'd like to have a beer with him."
