Okay, Louisianans. If Vitters resigns, does Blanco get to appoint
someone to take his place or do you all have a special election?

6. First he told people that the flood wasn't happening. Then....
a few days later he jumped on the bandwagon and gave the Feds an "F" for their effort.

http://www.answers.com/topic/david-vitter

In the wake of 2005's Hurricane Katrina, while New Orleans' flood levels were still rising in all areas, Vitter made an inaccurate statement that received notable media attention.

"In the metropolitan area in general, in the huge majority of areas, it's not rising at all. It's the same or it may be lowering slightly. In some parts of New Orleans, because of the 17th Street breach, it may be rising and that seemed to be the case in parts of downtown. I don't want to alarm everybody that, you know, New Orleans is filling up like a bowl. That's just not happening," said Vitter on August 30.

9. I'm in Louisiana
Most of the people I know are Bushbots and Vitter fans.

I listened to a couple of them today and they are pretty upset.

New Orleans news had the segment on the hookers on Canal street talking about his diaper fetish.

It would be one thing if he weren't such a holier than thou freak....but his constituency is pretty freaked out.

Its going to be very difficult for him to show his face around Washington. I think his wife is going to dump him.

He may be toast.

11. Uh, diaper fetish?
Louisiana people will put up with "sins of the flesh," my goodness, look at how many of our politicos are caught in sex scandals here...but fetishes? Too much ick factor for these people! Love it, love it, love it....resignation, not the fetish.

If the next statewide ballot is more than 2 years (I think it's two) they call for a special election using whatever date "a number of" parishes are holding elections.

16. Does she have to appoint a republic? Or can she go with a Dem?
Betting Blanco would bow to an immense republic pressure to appoint another republic in Vitter's slot....honoring the "will of the electorate," and all that crap.

18. traditionally they appoint their spouse. Senators Rose Long and Elaine Edwards
Edited on Wed Jul-11-07 11:16 PM by RGBolen

Sorry Rose was actually appointed by Governor Allen. And won the special to serve out the term but didn't run for reelection. Elaine didn't run in the special election but was always addressed as Senator Edwards.

22. I can't imagine Wendy Vitter would want to serve in this case
So, would you envision Blanco appointing a Dem or a republic? Would she bend to pressure to appont a republic? If she appointed a Dem, then the republics would push for a special election asap, so I kinda think she would yield to the inevitable and appoint a republican. Ooops, a republic.

17. If Vitter's going to resign...
and I think there needs to be another allegation, he'll wait until the new Gov., probably GOPer Bobby Jindal is sworn in. Jindal will appoint another Republican and we're set. If Vitter can't make it another six months, Blanco might could ask John Breaux to resume his seat. The only GOPer in the state who they could ask who has a clean enough image would be Richard Baker of Baton Rouge. I use the word "clean" advisedly.

19. John Breaux? Are you serious? No way in hell she would appoint Breaux
Or anyone who graduated from LSU.

This is the only person who would be on her list for such an appointment.
