A question regarding these new Hollywood moms and moms to be |
|
Some entertainment show was on and they were showing all the pregnant ones and ones with children in Hollywood. These people are wanting to have children in their early twenties? Does anyone know people that have children when they are under 25 or so? I can't think of anyone I know that had children that early. Is a baby some kind of Hollywood fashion accessory?

If you want to start a family and can afford it, why not do it when it's least physically risky, you've got the energy for it and your body will bounce back? This recent fad for waiting until one is on the verge of menopause to have children is dangerous for mothers and children.

14. I don't really care when others have kids, but it's nice knowing |
|
that when my youngest is 20 I will be a young 42! That thought alone is keeping me from having any more.

6. The safest childbearing years for both women and their children |
|
are between 18 and 25. After that, the risks to both mother and child start to go up. That's a very sad fact of life, along with the fact that our culture doesn't work very well with female biology and insists young women follow the same schedule followed by males: education, then establishment of a career, then marriage and then children, usually in their 30s.
Good for the Hollywood starlets having their children when it is safest. I'm glad one segment of this country can afford to do it that way.

7. What isolated little corner |
|
of the world are you living in? I just asked my wife, a labor and delivery nurse, what the average age of the moms is at her hospital and she said 22. One mom recently was having her 4th baby at age 19.

9. seems like moms are either young(>20) or older (>35), or in between |
|
that should cover it. I noticed the moms dropping off kids at kindergarten were either of the younger or older generation mostly. Either had kids by 20 or waited until mid 30's, though I also knew some in between. It made for 2 interesting groups of parents, discussing things.

11. Prime time is 18-24 for women |
|
And if money is not a problem, I say have 'em young, and you're still "young" when they are grown up too..
I had my first at 24 and the last at 4 months shy of 30 and BOY HOWDY what a difference in the energy level :scared:

12. I had my first at 21, my second at 22 |

My husband had his first (my step-son) at 23. Most of our friends waited until late 20's early 30's though.

13. I was 24 when I had my daughter. |
|
My mom was 20 when she had me.
I certainly didn't think of my daughter as a "fashion accessory", and I'm quite sure my mom didn't see me as one either.

18. Almost everyone I know |
|
I don't know anybody who waited until after they were 25. It's a cultural thing I think. I know wealthier people seem to wait until their thirties to get married and have kids. Everyone I know says they want to be young enough to enjoy the outdoors with their kids. Maybe the 80% that have houshold incomes under $100,000 know they always will and consequently there isn't a heckuva lot to wait for.

19. Not all Hollywood moms are in their 20's. Julia Roberts |
|
just had her third child at 39. Marcia Cross of Desperate Hosewives had twins in February, just shy of her 45th birthday. Actress Salma Hayek is pregnant at 40.
I'm no celeb, but I had my one and only child at 40, and have no regrets. The decision of if and when to become a parent is deeply personal. There is no "right" age.
