Global Warming "Trivia Question"
Edited on Wed Jul-11-07 10:15 PM by johnaries
Here's an interesting Trivia Question on Global Warming.

Who said "The debate on global warming is over."?

A. Al Gore (aka "Ozone Man")
B. Scientific American (the undisputed premier science magazine in the US)
C. Dr. Frederick Seitz (Chairman of the George C Marshall Institute which is funded primarily by Exxon-Mobil and are the most prominent critics of Global Warming. Dr. Sietz was employed previously by RJ Reynolds and provided studies that "proved" cigarette smoking was healthy.)

ANSWER: B. Scientific American, in September of 2006. http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?chanID=sa006&colID=1&articleID=000EABE4-BDFF-14E5-BDFF83414B7F0000

edit to add: please feel free to copy and email to every Global Warming denier you know.

2. The real "debate" was over long before Sept. 2006
It's only the "phoney debate" that's continued up until this day.

3. True, But people remember "sound bytes".
People remember Al Gore saying "the debate is over." Especially people who don't trust Gore for what ever stupid reason.
But Al didn't make it up. He was saying the same thing that the scientific community was saying. Including the premier Science Journal of the US.
"The debate is over". Not according to Al Gore, but according to Real Scientists. Al Gore is simply quoting Real Scientists.

4. True, but Gore was saying "The Debate Is Over" as a "sound byte" long before that SA article
The first time I remember him saying it as a "sound byte" was his "An Inconvenient Truth" pr tour, which was in May 2006. He would usually answer the first question about global warming with "The Debate Is Over" and then repeat the information included in the film. Scientific American said "The Debate Is Over" partly to back up Gore's contention.

5. It's a travesty that we need "famous people" to convey real messages
Edited on Wed Jul-11-07 10:25 PM by Canuckistanian
It used to be that people such as scientists, foreign political analysts, economists, and health professionals had the authority to speak and be heard. And it was taken seriously.

Now everything is "doubted" until an "alternative belief" has been thoroughly investigated in the media.

And now, only the truth-tellers such as an Al Gore or Michael Moore draw any attention at all to issues.

Still, it's better than no discussion at all.

7. well, the "average person" (you and me) has always had to rely
on the "experts", who actually have the time and money and sheer dedication to find out many things that we don't have to resources to find out.
The difference now is that now some people are being touted as "experts" who are paid to say whatever they aer paid to day. Most people don't know which expert to listen to. so they choose the one that tells them what they want to hear. (Oh, you have an expert who says he's proved the world is only 6,000 years old like the Bible says? Oh, then I trust him since I believe the Bible! I don't care HOW he proved it, just so long as he says he proved it.)
