Any decent programmers out there with a little time on their hands? (Re: DC madam phone list) |
|
We need an automated program for submitting the DC madam telephone numbers to Google or some such other search engine and saving the results to a text file. I have very limited experience in C, but it seems like a relatively simple bot would be a powerful tool for this purpose. Just read off the numbers in a text file, enter them into Google's search window, and write the results (with the searched number) to another text file. Any takers? Ideas? Is this idea crap?

1. On that same note, it'd be really helpful if... |
|
someone knew of an easy semi-automated way to convert the .tif files to some format that could be easily imported to excel, for sorting. I tried a few, but the formats are so inconsistent, especially after running through an OCR. But then, I'm not up on all the current tools and toys for doing something like this. I know something must exist.
Each zipped file contains about 100 pages of tiff files (and there are about a dozen of those). Way too many to manually deal with.

6. The one I tried on was a bit too dirty |

bad conversion or something.
Plus, the format is so inconsistent, it's really hard to import without having to go over every line and add some delimiters manually.

4. Ooh, yeah, forgot that step. Get the numbers into a text file to begin with. |
|
I know there are ways of scanning in letters and numbers but I am not familiar with them.

5. Well, they've figured out how to digitize them, and they're working on putting up a text list: |

8. Here's a technical question |
|
When I unzip the files, there's one large tiff composed of multiple pages. I use PSP, and it seems to only extract the first 100 pages -- I suspect that some of these files have more than 100 pages, yes?
Any ideas what's happening?
