A ray of hope for we Dems and Americans here...
It sure is enlightening to leave the somewhat comfy surroundings of DU and go face the rest of the world's political views. I copied and pasted a New York Times story from here to another board that I visit daily. I was simply trying to enlighten a few people that, yes, Bush is actually acting authoritarian and not this misunderstood guy by claiming executive privilege.

Lo and behold, the same person who claimed that TIME was written by the DNC surprised the hell out of me and said, That's it. Time to impeach him. Granted, this person is a lawyer but I thought she might stick up for his "rights". She also calls the LA Times the Leftie Times and talks about we Dems supposedly wanting to confiscate guns (????????).

I think Bush's crap is making more than just us sick. Every time I see a news story about him defying the Congress, I think to myself, There goes another nail in his coffin. Shades of Tricky Dick in 1974 !

1. My dear steve2470!
Yup, it's me....your old friend!

Good to see you.......

Excellent post!

I think the great unwashed masses are finally beginning to get it!

It's time to impeach the bastards!

Wish we'd had the votes years ago.......but still, better late than never, hey?

I take the LA Times, and they are anything but "lefty!"

They still do good investigative reporting, though...

:yourock:

Come play in the Lounge sometime.....we have fun in there!

4. My Republican neighbors
always fly their American flag. Lately, they have been flying a peace flag under it.

I am going to go up there to talk to them about voting Democratic in the primary. This is Illinois, and I think they like Obama. He won overwhelmingly in this red county. That in itself is a good enough reason to pull a Democratic ballot in the primary.

Also, a friend of theirs and former neighbor will be running for county board in our district. He will be on the primary ballot as a Democrat, and he is a solid progressive who is active with our Democratic central committee.

There is hope yet.

5. Even in Alaska
Edited on Thu Jul-12-07 01:46 AM by Blue_In_AK

Funny thing about this bench. This slogan was painted on here all through the winter and well into June, even though this is a popular city trail and hundreds of people pass by weekly. Then a couple of weeks ago when we walked by, we were saddened to see that someone had painted over it with brown paint (although the words still bled through - appropriately).

But the sentiment cannot be stifled. The "Fuck Bush Bench" is BACK!

6. Bush works well!
If I were going to control and manipulate you all, I would be sure to have a renegade buffoon barking in the center ring with a rather skillful group of thinkers, planners, and doers apparently acting independently to execute the game plan.

By having them out in front, few people would suspect the sheer finesse and functionality of such a ruse. Obviously, you are going to look at and hate Bush. He was probably briefed on this from day one, or before he took the office. Meanwhile, he looks like a puppet in comparison to his Cabinet. Of course he does! So who would suspect that the Cabinet is performing the very same function for the public eye? Well, that's a ridiculous notion, is it not?

Think back at all the lies that have worked so well and remember that they don't take breaks or vacations, ever. This is serious business and the stakes are high. There are millions to manipulate and mistakes are not allowable or forgivable, as in chess. Once you own the media, and the production and flow of money, then your titular game show host is a mere trifle that can serve a dual purpose: Loved by those who believe and aspire towards the bullshit, and hated and despised by those who see the bullshit and need something or somebody to blame it on. A human face is the first thing a baby recognizes a reacts to. It seems to the the thing that even mature, thinking adults will become obsessed with also.

America must grow up and see the relationships here and that the Executive Branch does not act at all on its own, it is merely a very practical extension of the media show that directs and manages public opinion in potent and frightening ways.

Impeachment is fine with me and would be enjoyable and a much needed catharsis. However, there will be no public flogging, prison sentences, or executions involved. My fear, is that it will only serve, once again, to distract a population who is increasingly, (though begrudgingly) becoming aware of what's going on behind the precise, methodical spectacle they are allowed to see.
