WHAT TO DO? WHAT TO DO?
Edited on Thu Jul-12-07 03:43 AM by MatrixEscape
(this is going to be very unpopular and disgusting to mainstream DU'ers and may end up merely relegated to one of the dungeons here, but I have been a long time reader of Ms. Baker and she never fails to capture the essence of what is behind the curtain AFAIK! Debate her points and rail against the terrible news, but don't dismiss her salient points at least, please.)

Taking Action In The Face Of Collapse
By Carolyn Baker

OK, now I’ve told you what to do. If you don’t want to do it or refuse
to do it, please don’t call me “dismal”, “negative” or a “purveyor of
hopelessness.” Look in the mirror and ask yourself how it is that after
all this time, despite all the information you have, you still don’t
get it.

"Every time I write an article on collapse such as my most recent one “Happy Independence Day; You Have No Government”, I am bombarded with emails asking me “what should I do?” For those who have just discovered this site, that is a legitimate question because for them, the reality of collapse may be new. Those who have been following this site for some time have heard many suggestions on what to do, but this article will offer those and other suggestions again more clearly and more adamantly than they have been offered here before. The intensity you are likely to hear in this piece is driven by the urgency which I and many of my peers are feeling at this moment. Quite frankly, it’s time to quit screwing around with talking about collapse and start acting. The Rubicon has been crossed, we’re not living in Kansas anymore, and we are living in the closest thing we’ve seen to pre-World War II Germany than anything since then. Suit up and stop theorizing and speculating. It’s showtime.

The first thing I’m not going to tell you is that collapse can be avoided or that human ingenuity and technology will come up with something to spare us from it. I’m not going to tell you that there will be some mass movement-some magic that will organize progressives into a groundswell of protest, writing letters to Congress, creating blogs and websites, supporting the “right” candidate, and asking for donations. No, what I’m going to tell you is that as a nation and as a planet, we are screwed, fucked, and shit out of luck, or if you prefer Spanish, estamos jodidos.

The second thing I’m not going to tell you is what you’d like to hear-how you can just keep living the lifestyle you’re living but that somehow you can avoid collapse. I’m not going to tell you that you can keep banking with Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Citibank, or any of the other satanic financial monsters and it will make no difference to you or anyone else. I’m not going to tell you that you can keep buying your food at your local supermarket or Walmart, and everything will be fine. I’m not going to tell you to go out and vote for a presidential candidate in 2008 when even if there is an election, whoever is selected by the electronic voting industrial complex, will be that complex’s man or woman-body, mind, and soul. I’m not going to tell you to get a hybrid vehicle or put solar panels on your house. In fact, before I tell you to do anything, I’m going to invite you to engage in doing nothing.

2. What?
How did you come to that conclusion? Is that sarcasm or didn't you read the entire article before commenting.

I am sorry if you don't have to time to spend getting the entire idea presented, but then, why comment or hate people you can't devote the time to understand first?

I would counter that any form of suicide we are encountering is the one that is not obvious and is committed with full effort, even if it is involuntary in a superficial way.

You just have to go all the way and deal with all the information first. Knee-jerk reactions are rampant and proving to be totally ineffectual and, for the most part, simply cathartic. The machine marches on without your consent and without any compassion or even concern for your ultimate survival.

If you can get with that, you have something real and tangible to work with now.

3. Reading the snippet you posted was quite enough...
Thank you very little.

And I figured out a long time ago that the machine doesn't give a fuck about me. So what? It consumes parts of itself as easily as anything outside itself. But it's not unbeatable. Even if "beating" it means disregarding its wants as much as possible while you live your life. Fuck the machine and fuck those who cower in fear of it.

6. You forgot that most people being IN the matrix don't get it....
if you just hit them with a hammer on their head. If they would, we as a planet wouldn't be in the trouble we're in.
Society as we know it is over. The life inside the egg got sucked out by the greedy and the powerful long ago. The media only reports about the state of the egg's shell, seen from the outside. Most people avoid looking close enough and tell everyone the egg's looking fine, but some of us already see the cracks in it. And there are no parties to vote for anymore, we're on our own. It's scary for all of us.

5. For a long time I have been saying
that the most productive thing we can do is buy a chisel and a tablet of marble and start documenting the end of civilization as we know it.

Leave a message for any future inhabitants of Earth.

8. Basically she is saying
Really bad times are coming. Prepare yourself for its arrival by realizing that it is real and will happen. Don't let yourself be overwhelmed or devastated into inaction when it does come.

Make sure you have a network of like-minded people close to you. Work together to get yourselves through the rough times.

9. My apology for omitting the link.
Truly sorry there. The link is that the site in my signature however, for those who would have inquired and not settled for just the quotes as a way to assure themselves that it is merely bunk and not worthy of note.

Thanks to the Google reminder!

I also agree that the hammer on the head is rude and obnoxious and, well, "Tis folly to be wise when ignorance is bliss!" The bliss does run out at the end of the yellow brick road, none-the-less. I am sorry to spoil things in the here and now of things.

Yet, this kind of site manages to be a trumpet for that kind of spoiling all the time, so replacing a mosquito with a sledge hammer is only a matter of proportion, is it not? Ignoring it all still remains very viable and comforting option, methinks.
