MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: I spoke to a very noncommital Representative Jan Schakowski.
Edited on Thu Jul-12-07 07:25 AM by liberaldemocrat7
and spoke to Representative Jan Schakowski of the Out of Iraq Caucus and told her

of this action to end the war. Tell her to spread the word to her fellow representatives and constituents all over the US: Also mention Democratic Underground.

I told her:

"For those who want to end the war call War contractor and GOP contributor General Electric at 203 373 2211 and ask for the public relations department or email gary.sheffer@ge.com

Tell the person that you want the Iraq war to end by Dec 2007. Tell the person that you will no longer buy their products until the GE CEO gets George W Bush to end the war, and then resign with Cheney."

The more people who call into CSPAN Washington Journal on the Democrats line the better the chance that one of us will pass the message to Representative Jan Schakowski. CALL 202 737 0002.

She ACTED VERY NONCOMMITAL ABOUT MY SPEAKING TO HER as if ok there appear winners and losers in the sphere of companies doing business and making money on the war. Did she say anythign about whether she would spread the word, yes or no? NOT A WORD. I find it rather disappointing that our own representatives act so noncommittal about this and cynically wait for the 2008 election.

"The Republican party appears weak and vulnerable at the cash registers of those companies that give them money."

Call General Electric. Start the revolution.

8. And She's Supposed to Change Repugnican Votes In The Senate?
Jan's great and I look forward to hearing her...not just about Iraq but many other topics she's out front on. In fact, I'd rather hear her discuss the health care mess as this is where her expertise lies and what the House needs to focus on...not Iraq.

The votes are in the House to pass most withdrawl plans, but with Repugnican obstructionists in the Senate, nothing is gonna get done. As long as you have Repugnicans feinting they're "tiring of the war", then they go and vote to enable even more bloodletting. Alexander is more the problem here than Schakowski.

22. No, she can tell people to call general electric and pressure them.
God do you appear so dense that if people apply pressure to a friend of the GOP telling them they won't buy their products in droves that perhaps something will happen?

That's how Gandhi and Mandela brought down oppressive governments, with boycotts of their government's company friends.

24. Huh???
So Congresspeople are now supposed to stage corporate boycotts? And how is this to be done?

Again...stay on the topic and question here please...what can she do as a LEGISLATOR...one of 435 who already have voted on cutting funding and timetables?

From one who did plenty of boycotting from the Vietnam era...I've avoided GE products since those days...I still boycott Pepsi for hiring Nixon to sit on their board of directors. But that's individuals...not government action

Again...please try and tell me what else she can do.

representatives and constituents to have people call GE. No, she wants to cynically wait for Nov 2008 while 100 soldiers on average die each month until then.

28. GE Will End This Invasion?
Honestly, I'm trying to follow you here. Is GE responsible for this invasion?

Are they war profiteers? Yes. But they are in a long list of companies that are. Why single out GE? Again, just curious to hear your explanation.

I know Congressman Schakowski...both as one who lives in her state, she respresents the district I grew up in (one of the most liberal/progressive in the country) and I've had the chance to both hear her speak and shake her hand. This lady was against this invasion from the outset...spoke out when it wasn't popular. If anyone wants our troops home, and now, It's Congresswoman Schakowski.

Again...what do you expect her to do? She's done a great job in forming a caucus and is one of the most realiable votes we have here in our common goal to end this madness. Why not take your anger and frustration to help put pressure on Senate Repugnicans who are obstructing any discussion of ending this fiasco...or working for a campaign that is organizing to remove more Repugnican obstructionists next year.

32. GE will lose money until their CEO gets Bush to end the invasion of Iraq.
Edited on Thu Jul-12-07 11:52 AM by liberaldemocrat7
I expect an elected Representative to act like a citizen. If the reality appears that she cannot persuade Republicans in congress to end this war, then I expect her to take the message to citizens and say, you buy products every day. Change your buying patterns such that you will no longer buy any GE consumer products, call general Electric at 203 373 2211 and say to the public relations person, get your CEO to persuade Bush to end the war and until that happens you will no longer buy GE consumer products.

Keep watching Countdown though but watch no other program on MSNBC.

Gandhi told his citizens something similar and the British eventually left India. Our leaders should apply economic pressure on the friends of the GOP.
