Term Limits for Congress being discussed again
Now that the Democrats have taken back the House and Senate (And might keep it for a while), all of the sudden I've been hearing talk of term limits come up.

Now mind you, it's not on DU, but there are conservatives who started to get this opinion (and for some reason decided to voice it after the victory of the Democratic Party).

Why term limits for Congress?

Why not term limits for the Cabinet?

If you want career politicians, look at Cheney and Rumsfeld.

1. Wasn't it determined before that each state would have to determine
if there should be term limits for their congress criminals?

Correct me if I am wrong please.

3. Basically states can limit the terms of state government officials, but not the
Federal officials. The Constitution sets the qualifications of federal officials to hold office, and term limits (except for Pres) is not included in the qualifications.

5. The Supreme Court ruled term limits unconstitutional
They said it would take away the citizen's right to choose their Representative. Sort of makes one wonder how then there can be term limits on the President. One would think the same logic would apply but then again what do I know?

4. I think there are people in Congress who should have left a long time ago.
It seems that they have lost touch with the people and only care about the precious campaigns.

But I'm not sure term limits is the answer here. I use to think so, but now I think we need comprehensive campaign finance reform so somebody who has ideas can run against an entrenched incumbent and still get their point of view across. I think that's much better than term limits.
