"Gut Feeling": good e-mail I received

By now, you should have heard about Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff's comment that he has a "gut feeling" the nation faces an increased terrorist danger this summer. That gave me a few gut feelings of my own.

I have gut feeling that the 12 billion dollars a month being spent on the Iraq War isn't buying us the security President Bush told us it would.

I have a gut feeling that all the undermining of our Constitutional rights hasn't made us any more secure (just like Ben Franklin predicted when he said "those willing to sacrifice liberty for security end up with neither".

I have a gut feeling that the record profits being posted by the oil companies and the defense contractors will be the only positive outcomes from the Bush Administration's foreign policy.

I have a gut feeling that all the sincere Americans who backed this president are feeling betrayed by his long string of failures - whether it giving our own soldiers the leadership and support they need, innocent Iraqi's (oops, I mean collateral damage) who are bearing the brunt of a failed war, or the folks in New Orleans still waiting for the promised federal aid, or the kids in our schools who are being left behind by budget cuts. Not to mention his mangling of the truth about so many important issues (WMD, Plamegate, the Justice Department debacle, Global Warming).

I have a gut feeling that Osama bin Laden and the other crazies in Al Qaeda are laughing at the stupidity that left them alive and running the show in parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan. My gut tells me that they're just tickled pick about how the Iraq war is bringing them thousands of new recruits from around the world. And my gut just churns when I think about how all the international support we had just after 9/11 has turned to hatred.

In fact, the more I think about the Bush Administration's failures, the more that feeling in my gut turns to disgust.

Bob

3. K & R.
Good post. I've had some of the same "gut" feelings too, especially about Al Qaeda.
