"Invasion of the Body Snatchers." -- The original one from the '50s.
So it seems that these giant, string-bean-looking pods showed up. And when people fell asleep, they were replaced by the pods which took on their appearances, their voices and their lives. (Kind of a "Stepford Wives" plot without the sex.)

The story is as timely today as the day it was made. All you have to do is replace the word "pod" with "Republican."

You gotta' love how so many of these pods are now "standing up" to Great Leader and criticizing his policies. The only problem is that every time a vote comes up, even the most "independent" pods (such as Olympia Snowe, Arlen Specter, and that Howdy Doody look-alike, Senator Lugar) always end up voting along with all the other pods.

The twenty something percent who still back the The Dick and his faux-Texan sock puppet are known pods. But the rest of the Republican Party still wants what they've always wanted. To suck away our very beings and replace them with cash registers that are never empty and never "get it." (Or, put another way, they want to turn us all into Pod fodder.)

These modern day Body Snatchers have had an unbelievable six and a half year unopposed run. And it's way past time to go out and get some Ortho Weed Killer to finally put a stop to these malignant growths that have snatched so many bodies, so many minds, and so many souls.

1. That was the greatest, I still bring it out every couple of months
...just for a sanity check to remind me that the film was in fact the fiction and what we are seeing in BushCo is real and not the other way around.

3. There's a new movie "Invasion" w/ Nicole Kidman coming out soon
which looks to be a new version of it - interested to see what their take is, adapting for the post-9/11 world.

5. Didn't they change the ending to that because it freaked the "test audience" out so much?
They added an upbeat ending where everything turns out Okey-dokie?

7. Didn't hear about that. But our current day pods are still freaking me out.

8. Yeah - the original ending was with the lone survivor from the town
running out onto the highway screaming "They're HERE!"

So they added a scene where an accident spilled pods all over the road, and the cops realized the madman was telling the truth, by god! and they got on the phone to the governor, yadda yadda.

9. That's what I thought, thanks.
I think I saw the "Original" original several years ago.
That was on video or DVD.

More recently I saw the one with the "tacked on" ending.
TCM maybe?

And that's exactly what it feels like. "tacked on"

It doesn't fit with the rest of the movie at all.

Even the camera work looks different.

6. The new Harry Potter flick takes a pretty hefty potshot at repuke groupthink
The chief protagonist in the story is basically a shill for the ministry of magic. She has no thoughts of her own and just sees herself as a representative of the department.
