because this is their big showdown, the one that will confirm forever that the system of checks and balances is dead and that Congress will never, ever hold power over the Executive again. If Congress lets them.

I think the chances are 50-50, even though some GOPs are now expressing outrage. GOPs want to get reelected, so GOPs lie about stuff like that.
