Ben Nelson, D-Neb joined with GOPers against Dems to fund Darth Cheney
At issue is a requirement that executive branch offices provide data on how much material they classify and declassify. That information is to be provided to the Information Security Oversight Office at The National Archives.

Cheney's office, backed up by a letter Thursday from White House Counsel Fred Fielding, insists that the offices of the president and vice president are exempt from the order because they are not executive branch "agencies."

. . .

Nelson, who cited Fielding's letter when he changed his position, often votes with the White House, and it didn't hurt Cheney's cause that he is from Nebraska and bypassed opportunities to attack Nelson in his re-election campaign last year.

"The president has the power and authority to issue executive orders to do exactly what he wants," said Nelson, a former governor.

Nelson votes 99.998% with GOPers. Why not, there are no consequences to doing anything different. I hear Democratic voters will vote for him no matter what.

Pffft!

2. He's a fixture in Nebraska politics. I'm just glad he votes for Reid for Majority Leader.
That's why we have Chairman Leahy working on contempt charges for Harriet Miers.

3. Big deal, Nelson will just join with GOPers again allowing her to get off
No matter what is tried to limit this totalitarian regime, Nelson has already firmly stated, Cheney and Bush are above the law. As the article points out, he will do his best to make sure no one touches them.

4. Nelson's OK on the war, but the rest of the time, he can be an absolute tool.

I like Hagel better--he probably would have taken the opportunity to screw Cheney in a heartbeat. Nelson's on his way to becoming the next LieberWorm in terms of his closeness to this administration. It's sickening.

On edit--you're right--he's pretty much untouchable in Nebraska politics--conservative, safe, unimpressive, boring, a little bit dirty politically/ethically but not enough to cause concern. The repubs love him here. They can't stand the actual Repub they do have.
