Heidi Olson, 50, was the first witness to testify in the trial of Rep. Mark Olson, a Republican from Big Lake, after opening arguments Wednesday in Sherburne County District Court in Elk River. Mark Olson faces two misdemeanor domestic assault counts, which allege he pushed his wife down three times behind their Big Lake home on Nov. 12, causing her harm and fear.

Heidi Olson, who is 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds, said her husband, who is 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds, physically assaulted her three times before the November incident, once bruising her arms by repeatedly throwing two Bibles at her in a rage. The jury was shown pictures of her arm bruises.

On the Sunday morning of Nov. 12, Heidi Olson said she confronted her husband, who had ignored her requests for two days to talk about his harsh treatment of her 12-year-old autistic son for not playing fairly in a Monopoly game. She said Olson said she had ruined his life and he had nothing to lose. She was standing in his way as he measured the back of their garage for a planned addition and he pushed her down, she said.

"I was afraid of being killed," she said.

After pushing her down twice more, she said he told her: "Why don't you come over here and I will finish the job."I was thinking homicide-suicide," Olson told the jury.

And this guy is only being charged with two misdemeanors. Shouldn't this be a felony?
