In both senses. I really do feel sorry for the families of this guy and Vitter -- well in Vitter's case, I feel sorry for the children, not so much for wifey since she saw fit to snark on Hillary regarding Bill's infidelity.

It is really bizarre what's going on with Republic lawmakers these days. And what is even more bizarre, is all the other Republics who are making excuses for them. Tucker Carlson, of course, who says that "men are just like that" (imagine if any female, anywhere, made that statement in Vitter's defense -- it would be derided as a sexist feminazi statement) -- and who really went off on one of his guests on the topic. And other Republic politicians, who are shocked -- shocked! -- that a politician's sex life would be considered fair game.

What is startling to me is how worked up they get -- their veins are literally popping. Well in the case of Vitter, it's clear what all the heatedness is really about. If they held a solid Senate majority, they'd be denouncing him, in much the same way that Lieberman denounced Clinton. They would get to make bonus points as non-partisans. They're not so dumb that they don't see the hypocrisy of supporting him. But they can't afford not to, because if Vitter resigns Governor Blanco is free to appoint a Democrat in his place. And even though it would be a temporary appointment, there would be plenty of time for mischief...

Vitter needs to be forced to resign. He has broken the law and disgraced his office. And when he resigns, please, Governor, don't get cold feet: go ahead and appoint a Democrat so we can go after these bastards while there's still time.
