O'Reilly takes on Tony Snow, 'You can't win' in Iraq' David Edwards and Muriel Kane
Published: Friday July 13, 2007

Fox News' Bill O'Reilly promised his audience "the truth about Iraq" on Thursday, saying that most Americans now feel the war has not been worth the costs, while "the president's argument for sustaining the war is largely theoretical."

O'Reilly turned on White House press secretary Tony Snow, saying, "You can't win ... unless the Iraqi people turn on all the terrorists. And they're not."

O'Reilly said he agreed with the president that defeat in Iraq could harm the US but said that "enough is enough," that the American people are as exhausted by this war as they ultimately were by Vietnam, and also that "the Iraqi government is incompetent and "the people themselves largely ungrateful."

"The whole thing is tragic and depressing, complicated and dangerous," O'Reilly concluded. "After more than four years, Iraq remains a huge stone around America's neck."

3. So Bill: are you saying you want us to lose in Iraq?

You know, that disaster that you cheered on from square one? And called dissenters unpatriotic?

What a POS.

7. He's not saying it was wrong...
He is instead blaming the situation on the Iraqis... Honestly, this isn't much better than what was said before. Now, if he said the war was a mistake and that we screwed that country far worse than it was before, then I would be shocked, and actually pleased with him... that's not the case though.

6. "It's ALL the fault of the ungrateful Iraqis and their lazy, corrupt government."
This is the meme they have been beating for some time, but it has REALLY started appearing with alarming frequency in the past few weeks. This appears to be the Golden Ticket, the Ultimate Get Out of Iraq "Free" Card. Originally, I think they wanted to blame "liberals" or Democrats for the debacle, but the war has dragged on too long now, and blaming the Iraqis for everything seems to be the horse they are betting on.

9. I completely agree
A lot of such commentary seems to ignore how much "help" we gave to the Iraqis in getting to this point.

Still, it doesn't seem like the Iraqi parliament has helping as much as it could.

13. The Iraqi Parliament is filled with goons WE put there, and they won't play ball.
It is true, "There is no honor among thieves."

Sucks, doesn't it? We hand-picked a bunch of these yahoos and they just won't do what we expected them to do. Mostly because they are either:

a: out of Iraq most of the time,
b: trying desperately to get out of Iraq, or
c: stealing and grifting as much as possible before getting the Hell out of Iraq

Helping out average, everyday Iraqi citizens doesn't really seem to be part of their job description.

11. LBJ knew the war in Vietnam was lost when he lost Walter Cronkite...
Not that I want to compare a legend like Cronkite to a piece of trash like O'Reilly, but Georgie just lost one of the primary cheerleaders for the war in Iraq. As we all know, there are too many people who listen to morons like Billo and agree with whatever he says. With him coming out against the war, is this finally the beginning of the end as the 29% starts to splinter?

12. Rupert Murdock may have sent out the order
"No more support for Bush". Expect the News teams, both broadcast and paper, in his empire to follow suit over the next few weeks and then watch who they suck up to because that is Murdock's prefered Presidential candidate. This is similar to what happened in the UK at the end of the Conservative period in power

15. Interesting. The reason is always money. Always.
So if Bill has had an overnight conversion, there has to be a reason and it has to be about cash. Faux must be losing viewership due to what Bush disingenuously refers to as "war fatigue".
But, hey, Bill Kristol is still clinging to his "we're winning the war!" blather. As a neocon who wrote the blueprints for this fiasco, he has too much to lose. Not only whatever shreds of credibility he has left (he's been consistently wrong for years) but all those millions from the war machine.
O'Reilly is a whore. He'll say and do whatever he's paid to do. Same as Rush, Hannity, Coulter, and Boortz.
When their bosses tell them to turn on Snow, they will. They do exactly what they're ordered to do.
