It's more than just a wedge issue. It's more than just a convenient way to go after Bill Clinton. As the behavior of more and more Republicans comes to light, we are faced with overwhelming proof - the Republican Party is full of sex addicts.

These people can't stop talking about sex. They are constantly pushing legislation involving sex - gay sex, teen sex, unmarried sex, public sex, unprotected sex. The word "condom" winds them up. They can't get "it" out of their minds.

Bills to make gay marriage unconstitutional, bills limiting access to contraceptives, bills making abortion illegal, bills setting harsh penalties for public sex, bills outlawing sex education, bills pushing abstinence-only sex education....all the Republicans ever seem to think about is sex, sex, sex. Look at the pictures of torture in Abu Ghraib. Nudity and sexual humiliation.

Meanwhile, what is the average Republican doing when he's not pushing bills about his favorite subject, sex? Apparently, he's engaging in sex! Not just with his wife. There's sex with prostitutes, sex with pages, sex with undercover police officers. Sex while wearing diapers. Sex while snorting meth. It's just wall-to-wall sex for the Republican Party.

Listen to the constant gabbing from the right about Bill Clinton's penis. It's been what - eight years, more? - since Monica Lewinsky gave Bill a blow job and the Republicans still can't stop talking about it. They sound like third graders who were the last ones in their class to find out where babies come from, and now they can't stop sniggering.

It's time for the grownups to tell the third-graders to get over it. The next time some idiot says, "Bill Clinton did it too!" ask them why they are so preoccupied with Bill Clinton's penis. Penis envy?

Tell yourself that something is a sin and doesn't belong in your life any more. It can be the gambling you might do three times a year at an Indian casino. It can be the chocolate cake you only get at birthdays. It can be exceeding the speed limit by even the 2 MPH fudge factor. Just try denying yourself this one simple thing.

My guess is that over a period of several weeks, you will become obsessed with it, watching to see if other people do whatever it is, remembering what it was like when you once did it, wondering if anybody will really know if you sneak, just once.

Such is the GOP religious preoccupation with sex. Telling them to get over it is pointless. If they are convinced they must be denied something, then by golly, so will the rest of the world be denied it.
