Worthy press: Who are they? Who's thorough and objective and understandable? |
|
The American people don't get the news they need. When I've discussed some of the things I've learned here at DU, my friends have been astonished that they didn't know about that (the Plame leak/investigation, DOJ firings, etc.). They don't want to go to such a partisan site as this for the news (I can't blame them even though mst are progressives), but they really do want to know more.
Where can we send them to find out what's really going on? I watched MSNBC off and on all day yesterday and Wednesday--nary a word that the president ORDERED Harriet Miers not to appear before the House Judiciary. That is truly sad, my friends.
I'll give it up right here for Keith Olbermann, but there must be others on the tube, on the nets, in print. Who are they?

7. michael ware is a war advocate? |
|
Are we talking about the guy who has been in Iraq constantly for the last several years and who has been very realistic in his assessments of what is going on on the ground there? The same guy who said Lieberman was living in Fantasyland?

15. He has consistently condemned the "official" story |

of how the war is going, as far as I know. He even characterized it as a "train wreck" on Bill Maher's show.

if he is a war advocate (and I'm still not sure on that one) he certainly is providing objective views on what is happening there.

29. well if you could be specific about how he has advocated the war |
|
I would be more inclined to follow along with you. All you have done is accuse him of something vague and not provided any substantive evidence of your claims.
As it is, I have heard him explain his views many times, and the way I described them is what I heard him say.

26. I think he's more an advocate of the Iraqi People, not the war |
|
He wants the US to stay becasue of the devastating effect our leaving will have on the Iraqis, not becasue he's in favor of the war. He's lived there for years.
And he is bluntly truthful, not a spinner in the least.

16. I'm sure some of you will disagree, but ... |
|
... I think that Jim Lehrer's News Hour is about as objective as you can get on TV.
His guests are equally from the right/left perspective and are rarely the "usual bloviating pundits" (except for the every-Friday-night-stupidity of David Brooks).
The segments are quite extended, which give the two panelists plenty of time to expound their views --- instead of the spluttering and shouting seen on other shows.
Some may find it too talky, too 'reasonable', or too dull, but the OP asked for objectivity, not partisanship.

23. I don't disagree. I'd add though that in an effort to appear non-partisan his |
|
show pulls punches that it should not. Sometimes -- and this is one of those times -- a party or administration is deserving of harsh words, not cold moderation. If you give equal time to both sides of an issue it doesn't always present a true picture.
