White House, Pentagon cite executive privilege to hold up documents on friendly fire victim Tillman
http://rawstory.com/news/2007/White_House_Pentagon_hold_up_documents_0713.html

Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) revealed on Friday afternoon that the White House and Pentagon were holding up a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee investigation into the friendly fire death of former professional football player and Army Corporal Patrick Tillman.

"he Committee wrote to White House Counsel Fred Fielding seeking 'all documents received or generated by any official in the Executive Office of the President' relating to Corporal Tillman's death," noted a press release from the Committee.

But the White House has apparently again invoked its executive privilege to hold up the documents sought by Waxman and Ranking Minority member Tom Davis (R-VA).

"The White House Counsel's office responded that it would not provide the Committee with documents that 'implicate Executive Branch confidentiality interests' and produced only two communications with the officials in the Defense Department, one of which was a package of news clippings," the Committe noted. "The response of the Defense Department to the Committee's inquiry was also deficient."

4. This story should be milked for all its worth
the majority of Americans will sympathize with the families right to know the truth about their sons death.

8. Probably not about his death

They're covering up some high-level involvement in the initial lie about his death.

11. The family was lied to. So the lies are part of what the
family has the right to know about.

You said it! That is exactly what we need to be saying publicly in response to this ploy.

13. I agree
If the documents were beneficial to them, they would want them released. This proves that they are detrimental to the administration.

17. There was, indeed, a conspiracy, but the $64,000 question is....
where in the chain of command did cover-up originate, and what direction did it travel? I have my suspicions.

9. This is the new era of the US Government
It looks as if Bush will get his dictatorship, he has the SCOTUS in his pocket and the Justice Department is just the satellite office for the White House Counsel, and the Pentagon is nothing more then his own private army to be used as he sees fit.

More and more the Congress is being neutered, and with traitors like Nelson, Lieberman, and some other so-called Democrats, it won't be much longer before Congress will have the same designation as the Queen of England has, that of nothing more then a figurehead with no authority or real power.

And if anyone can prove otherwise please feel free to do so, and no quaint comments like "if you think that way why are you here" or other facsimiles please!!!!

14. This is the delicious high, hanging fastball
It either gets hit out of the park or it results in a strikeout.

The only embarrassing outcome would be to get a called third strike.

Here are the essential facts:

Pat Tillman is a heroic figure and an actual hero.

He is dead.

He died from friendly fire.

So far ...... no issue taken.

There was a coverup.

There were lies.

Invoking executive privilege can ONLY mean there was collusion and central control of those lies. Beyond that, there is NO national security or deliberative issues at stake here.

Will we hit it out ...... or will we wiff?

I am not sure I that I had ever even heard of a case of Executive Privilege prior to this year. Who do these guys think that they are and more importantly, how do they think that they are going to continue to get away with it? If this continues to go unchecked, Vancouver, here I come.

28. This administration has gone off the deep end. Slang for insane, I think.
How much longer are we the people going to tolerate this pure, unadulterated BS? How much longer?

What do we do?

How many more times is Congress and the Senate going to take "no, nah, nah, nah, we don't hear you and we don't have to. We're the President and you can't tell us what to do."

God damned almighty! and WTF!

I need a Mario S, I need GrannyD, I need Abbie H, I need Eugene Debs, I need Smedley Butler and Ike. I need somebody to stand up to these jerks and truly lead this country forward. I can't do it. Or can we all be who we wish for and make it happen?
