The difference between Democrats and Republicans |
|
As pointed out in the book "Banana Republican," by Sheldon Rampton and John Stauber, Democrats look at politics as a difference of opinions, a debate about differing philosophies. Republicans look at politics as all out war, defeat and crush the Democrats at all costs.
I think this is most apparent regarding the party leadership's views of impeachment. Newt Gingrich and Tom DeLay were able to get every Republican to march in lockstep to impeach Clinton. It was their Holy Grail mission and they pursued it with a fanatical fervor. The Democrats under Nancy Pelosi don't want to even think about impeaching Bush. I guess they think it might upset some people, or hurt Bush 41's feelings. And it's not just Pelosi, almost everyone of the Democratic leaders (except Dennis Kucinich) say no to impeachment, even though Bush and Cheney have done more to deserve it than any other president in US history.
It would be nice if there was less partisan hatred in Washington, but since there is, I don't think it should be unilateral. Republicans are not going to start playing nice just because the Democrats are too polite to impeach Bush. I think it's safe to say that when Republicans get control of Congress again (sometime in the future), they will go back to crushing the Democrats.

1. I heard there is a virus going around that only effects republicans. |
|
The outcome is, they have to tell the truth. The results are unpleasant. Most republicans don't know how and they are flooding the hospitals to stop the diareeha.

4. The difference: "What can we do" vs "What can you do" |
|
The left tends to try to increase rights while the right tries to limit rights. Incidentally oppressing someone else is not a right. That seems to be the rights chief complaint regarding social issues. They want to limit and control certain groups access to the pursuit of happiness. Now I have checked the founding fathers text and I can't find a list of prescribed forms of happiness that they meant to allow. So I am going to go out on a limb and suggest that they intended for each individual to pursue their own idea of happiness as long as it didn't violate someone else's rights.

5. you don't really need that many words. |

Republican = do whatever it takes to fuck over everyone and everything but the rich. Use the peeons in military to shut up the other peeons when they revolt.
Democrat = do whatever it takes to fuck over everyone and everything but the rich. Throw just enough rhetoric and money at the peeons to keep them quiet and oblivious.
All this talk of protecting the constitution and impeachment is just the Democrats way of making us think they give a damn about us little people. But the fact is, if they really did care, unions would be strong, the steel mills would still be here, universal healthcare would have been instituted long ago, every American would have a living wage long ago -- blah blah blah. It was JUST SO EASY to keep building on FDR's initiatives - instead they got a chicken in every pot to shut us up and then tossed us back into the abyss.
