Breaking CLG Exclusive: La. GOP officials negotiating with governor for Vitter replacement appointment By Lori R. Price 13 Jul 2007 Citizens for Legitimate Government (www.legitgov.org) has learned that Louisiana Democratic Party insiders say that Republican officials are attempting to negotiate with Governor Kathleen Blanco (D) for a possible replacement appointment for Senator David Vitter (R), should he suddenly resign.

Citizens for Legitimate Government has also received information that Vitter is in the Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans.

This story will be updated.

======================

Way to GO CLG. They got the phone numbers from Palfrey, the DC Madam, and they got this.

Alternative news replaces the not ready for prime time networks with this exclusive.

If it's still that deceng guy she brought in after Katrina.

I hear you brother. What negotiation. Vitter has to go, bye bye!

37. There's no liberal-left Democrat that can get elected in 2008
Charlie Melancon is probably the best choice for the job, IMO. He'll vote moderate-conservative but he will also have far more party loyalty than someone like Joe Lieberman.

43. Kathleen Blanco signed the Louisiana abortion ban. Do you believe she will pick a liberal?
Edited on Fri Jul-13-07 08:43 PM by liberaldemocrat7
Will she even pick a Democrat?

Blanco jumped in bed with the anti abortion crowd. She acts as a Republican in my view.

Does Louisiana still ban abortions or did the law get overturned yet in the courts?

This is too close to pure poetic justice to not happen the right way.

16. Most likely she will have to work with them.
Vitter is not just an embarrassment to his party but to the entire State of Louisiana and he does not have to resign his position. So she has the choice of not working with them and keeping a black eye on Louisiana or working with them and show the rest of the country that Louisiana does not allow corruption. Hopefully she can negotiate a deal where you guys get a moderate to left leaning republican but I highly doubt you will get a Liberal.

Republicans aren't going to do anything for LA, they've already shown that.

She has nothing to lose and everything to gain by appointing a Dem - someone whose vote in Congress will help get funds to rebuild.

The only way she can appoint someone is if he steps down, the Republicans are not going to have him resign unless they know they get to keep his seat in Louisiana.

but it's going to take more than shame to get him to resign, look at the current bunch of ass-hats in the White House they are proof that the republican party has no sense of shame or dignity.

You should save this picture though and use it every time a republican runs for office in your state. You need to figure out a way to change the text so it's still valid 10 years from now.

Maybe top, "Republicans we are more worried about leaks, than the state of Louisiana." bottom, "Republicans we can absorb a lot."

1. All the state's National Guard troops back.
2. Complete replacement of every piece of their equipment.
3. A federal grant in the amount of $400,000,000,000 to rebuild New Orleans.
4. An additional $100,000,000,000 for the people of Louisiana.
5. The reparation of every dollar of profit that the oil companies have reaped for destroying the delta.
6. The arrest and conviction of Michael Brown and Bela Chertoff.
7. The removal of every Blackwater contractor from every parish.

That's for starters.

Please, Governor Blanco, laugh in their faces when they simper over to start "negotiating" with you!

47. Well, being as how they are Republics...
...I'm betting there is coordination with the national party members -- the pressure could be aid to Louisiana.

Now if I were a Democratic pol, I'd start applying pressure from the other side: play ball now, and when we take over the White House in 2008 your state will be in a much better position... and of course, since we'll have a bigger majority, we should also be able to do something for Louisiana in the short term as well.

But I just don't see Vitter, whether he stays or goes, as a viable bargaining chip.

:-)

22. It would make sense, it seems to me, that Blanco would choose
a Democrat because a Democratic Senate that doesn't need Lieberman's vote would be more likely to pass legislation that would address the needs of Louisiana than the current Senate being held hostage by Lieberman.

Appointing a repub wouldn't get Louisiana any more help than they are getting now, it would remain the "non-issue" it seems to be and any promises made by the repubs to Blanco would not be worth the spittle it would take for them to utter them, imo.

They really snapped to attention. Spring 2008, fine, at least it's a deadline.

Now we need the Senate to do the same. They could just keep passing it over and over
each month and let what's his name veto it. See how they like that position.

39.  Lafayette Newspaper Reported Yesterday
that although the Republics in the state had circled the wagons around Vitter and publicly stating how effective a leader he is, they were privately talking to Blanco about appointing a Republic to Vitter's seat in case he should resign. They mentioned Dave Treen, a former governor, and moderate Republic to replace Vitter, and said that Treen had agreed to fill the seat until a special election could be called.

Today's Lafayette newspaper, had Republics denying all of the above, saying that Vitter would be back at work on Tuesday.

www.theadvertiser.com

Now, it would be stupid for the Republics in this state NOT to have been making contingency plans in case Vitter resigns. Of course they were doing that. And, Blanco would NOT appoint a Dem, she would follow the will of the Republic Party and then say it was the will of the electorate who elected Vitter. Any hope that she would appoint a Dem to get back at GWB should be given up. She wants someone who can get the most $$$ out of the fed govt for LA recovery, and that would be a Republic, not a Dem, unfortunately.

The New Orleans blog, www.righthandthief.blogspot.com said that the rumors that Vitter was hospitalized were not founded, but false.

I hope to hell he resigns, but I think he will tough it out until his term is over. His high expectation to be Rudy's running mate (VP) are out the window, however. He will never hold the highest offices in the land, and he wanted that badly. Tough shit, Vitter.

41. My question....why should Blanco care what the GOP thinks?
She's on her way out. And if she's holding out hope that a Repub replacement is going to be anymore effective than Vitter has been so far at getting disaster relief for NO, I suggest she put down that pipe. The Repubs don't want recovery under a Blanco administration, they're waiting to use the lack of recovery as a campaign ploy against the Democratic Party.

Do The Right Thing, Governor.

60. I for one support him as Rudy's running mate. The dream team...
... I don't fathom the mysteries of Louisiana politics. Any Governor in the state with discretion
would pick a member of their own party to replace a resigned member of the opposing party.

If it's money she wants for Louisiana, she's wasting her time appointing a Republic. She has a ton
of money and whatever more there is won't go to Louisiana. The state of Halliburton has it.

It's absolutely frightening to think that Vitter would have ended up on the ticket with Guilianni,
although the discovery of this little morsel would have been a find moment in the 2008 campaign,
nothing better. What a team, the master of blatant infidelity and "the lady's man."

Maybe Blanco will make a mistake and appoint a real Democrat.

50. We NEVER needed Lieberman. This has been posted here numerous times.

Lieberman Switch Wouldn't Flip Senate

With Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) publicly stating he'd consider becoming a Republican if Democrats block new funding for the Iraq War, many Democrats worry that control of the Senate hangs in the balance. However, their fears are unfounded. Many think back to 2001 when former Sen. Jim Jeffords (I-VT) began caucusing with Democrats instead of Republicans, taking control of the Senate out of GOP hands. However, the two situations - though outwardly similar - contain one important difference.

If Lieberman were to caucus with the Republicans, they would still not take full control of the Senate, despite Vice President Dick Cheney's ability to break 50-50 ties. This is because of a little-known Senate organizing resolution, passed in January, which gives Democrats control of the Senate and committee chairmanships until the beginning of the 111th Congress.

What's the difference between now and 2001? A small but important distinction. When the 107th Congress was convened on January 3, 2001, Al Gore was still the Vice President and would be for another two-and-a-half weeks. Therefore, because of the Senate's 50-50 tie, Democrats had nominal control of the chamber when the organizing resolution came to a vote. With Dick Cheney soon to come in, however, Democrats allowed Republicans to control the Senate in return for a provision on the organizing resolution that allowed for a reorganization of the chamber if any member should switch parties, which Jeffords did five months later. There was no such clause in the current Senate's organizing resolution.

I've sent Reid e-mails on several occasions asking WHY he continues to mislead us regarding this issue.
