Is Michael Moore's doc. "Sicko" funny, and if not, what's with the commercials? |
|
I've had two people ask me this, so am curious. Thanks.

2. One thing that bugged me about the commercial, |
|
you have some woman that claims she was laughing so hard (or something like that). I saw nothing funny about "Sicko", except the very beginning when he played that video of Bush talking about women giving their love to gynecologists.

3. Yup. It pretty much runs the gamut. |
|
It made me laugh, it made me cry, it pissed me off, and it frightened the Hell out of me.

4. i think the ad campaign is to appeal to people who might think they are going to a comedy |
|
and then once they are there..WHAM!! hit them with a dose of reality..
People who "know" what to expect will go anyway.
It's a clever campaign..

5. The humor is ironic, yet not cynical. And, sometimes, a little silly. |
|
Moore is brilliantly talented at reminding us that laughter brings us together. MKJ

The sadness in it way outweighs the laughs.

7. I haven't seen the commercials, but I saw the movie. |
|
It made me furious -- at our government. I want every politician to have their health insurance taken away; I want them get (or try to get) private insurance. I want them to have to pay the same percentage of their income for that insurance that the rest of us have to. And I want each and every one of them to watch Sicko, and then explain why we've been lied to about universal health insurance, why we don't have it here, and how they can justify not taking action on this. I also want each and every one of them to explain why an Rx that costs $120 here costs just 5-cents in Cuba.
There are some moments of humor in the film, but it's the kind of humor that has a sadness behind it.
We are sooo screwed in this country. Anyone else ready for the revolution?

8. That's a really odd ad. It has chuckle-moments, but it's stretching beyond breaking... |
|
... to say anything like "it's a funny movie".

|
everyone loved it. That's pretty impressive imo, and thank you all for your responses. :hi:

10. It seemed much less in the "laugh out loud" humor department than his previous work, IMO. |
|
All are on serious topics but this one seemed more earnest overall to me.

11. I laughed quite a bit during the movie |
|
And cried many times as well. In the end, I left feeling buoyed and positive, despite the many depressing scenes in the movie. I know it will be a blockbuster and it WILL cause a change in this country. As much as I enjoyed F9-11, I didn't get that sense about it.

14. I loved the movie but I don't understand the promo one bit. |
|
"I couldn't stop laughing" said one "viewer" in the ad . . . I remember a lot of emotions during the movie, maybe irony the closest to "humor", but the ad makes it sound like a comedic riot. It ain't.
