If I were a public figure and a CNN political analyst suggested I wore diapers with prostitutes...
...I would be out the next day standing next to my lawyer calling that man and CNN liars as my lawyer was preparing to sue CNN for slander and libel.

If it wasn't true that is.

If it was true you would never see me again in public.

JAMES CARVILLE, CNN POLITICAL ANALYST: Right.

<snip>BLITZER: Let's talk about your fellow Louisianian David Vitter. How much of a problem does he have in Louisiana right now?

CARVILLE: First, Louisiana is profoundly depressed. We have had this thing with Jefferson.

BLITZER: Economically, you're...

(CROSSTALK)

CARVILLE: Well, no, just about what's happened in our state. We had Katrina. And Jefferson had the $90,000 in the (INAUDIBLE) and Vitter with the prostitute. Usually, it's the Democrat with the prostitute and the Republican with the money.

In Louisiana, we kind of got it backwards. But I think, in Louisiana, peoples's attitude is, this is exactly what the state doesn't need. We feel like our image has been sort of tarnished. This is another blow to the state. And I think people in the state are -- are -- are pretty peeved at -- at politicians in general right now.

BLITZER: What do you think?

ARMEY: Well, you know, Armey's axiom is, you can't stand on principle with feet of clay.

And David Vitter has made it a matter of his principle in seeking the office, and while in office: I'm a righteous man, for the family.

I think this is a difficult time for him. I would be hard- pressed to expect him to survive politically. David Vitter cannot use a "So what?" defense, as Bill Clinton could, because, in fact, he pretended to be something quite different than Bill Clinton did.

And Armey's axiom is, the greater the pretension, the greater the hypocrisy. The next step is, the greater the hypocrisy, the greater the political...

(CROSSTALK)

BLITZER: But what does he say? That he asked his wife for forgiveness. They have gone to marriage counseling.

CARVILLE: Right.

BLITZER: He's now moved beyond that. He admits he -- he sinned.

CARVILLE: Look, to me, I forgive -- I mean, I completely forgive him, but he's -- it's the people of Louisiana he's got to go to. And people in Louisiana are going to say, that's great. I'm just saying, but -- but we don't need to be embarrassed anymore. We don't need to have $90,000 in the freezer. We don't need somebody like getting a prostitute to wear -- getting him to wear a diaper or whatever the story is.

8. If you were a morality pusher with that kind of story breaking
about you and working its way through both the pop media and the national gossip media, you'd probably take a fistful of pills or something.

He's reported to be in the hospital. He's one hurtin' buckaroo.

Yes, this stuff needed to come out and somebody (FINALLY!) needed to mention the massive hypocrisy of this man and others like him. However, please try to spare just a scrap, a scintilla of compassion for the poor bastard, himself. If he emerges thumping that bible, then we can all be merciless. Right now, we'll hope he's learning a lesson about pride and hypocrisy.

Just keep the story going with speculation about what all those other fully stuffed champions of morality are doing in their off hours.

14. I can't muster any compassion for him.
He chose to take the national spotlight on morality while he chose visit prostitutes. These prostitutes, by the way, were put out of business & were legally held accountable because their business was against the law.

I take personal issue with him because he's my senator :eyes: and he revels in sending form letters to those who oppose the boy king's policies with heartfelt pleas to do the right thing.

My e-mail to him and his response that I received on Monday, the day before the big story came out:

My belief is that both the president & vice-president should have been impeached years ago, beginning with the revelation that lies were told to invade Iraq, causing hundreds of thousands of needless deaths, & squandering hundreds of billions of (current & future generations’) taxpayer dollars. This is one of the most egregious crimes that could be made by a presidential administration.

The crimes against this country have continued and this administration obstructs any oversight -- congress' job, mind you -- questioning its wrongdoing.

Bush's commutation of Scooter Libby's sentence last evening is the last straw. By doing so, I believe that he himself has obstructed the law. Bush & Cheney were part of Fitzgerald's investigation, & if not for Scooter Libby's obstruction of justice in the investigation, Bush & Cheney may have been held accountable for committing one of the most heinous crimes against their own national security officers in exposing her position to the world. It is they who ordered Scooter Libby & Karl Rove to expose an agent whose focus was the proliferation of nuclear weapons. Her position was unquestionably essential to our country's national security.

It’s mind-boggling & infuriating that our congresspeople seem to be oblivious to what is happening to our country and gives this administration a mandate comparable to that of a kingship. It’s frustrating that the most impeachable administration in modern history has not been punished.

Enough is enough. I'm pleading with you to please do everything in your power to rid this country of the most vile leadership of our times. Please help to restore our faith in our government. Impeach now.

His response (unedited, btw):

Dear Friend,

Thank you for contacting me in support of impeaching President Bush. I appreciate hearing from you.

One of the great characteristics of our country is the ability to dissent with our government. Our First Amendment protects this right granted by our founding fathers who were absolutely correct when they argued that no man is above the law, including our president. I believe the constitution and values that we all hold dear are at times best displayed by those who disagree with our elected leaders and representatives.

I understand that at times citizens will be frustrated with their leaders, but impeachment is a serious charge that should not be levied just because of disagreements in political philosophy. The requirements for impeachment are quite serious, with the U.S. Constitution stating that the grounds for impeachment are treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. I do not believe President Bush deserves impeachment.

Throughout America 's storied history the debate among our elected leaders has been stirring, and at times, difficult, but such dialogue has helped make America the great country we all love and respect. I encourage you to continue to support the policies that you feel best represent America .

Once again, thank you for contacting me on this important issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future.

Sincerely,
Senator David Vitter
United States Senator

9. You hit the nail squarely on the head.
He hid for 4 days, depriving the boy king of another rubberstamp vote in the Senate on Iraq policy on each of those days he was "in seclusion".

Wow. You'd think he'd have run to Capitol Hill to lick those boots.
