August in Iraq: 130 degrees and American's die while the Iraq Parliament is on vacation!
Seattle Times
7/14/07

<snip>

But Bush aides acknowledged they failed to pressure the Iraqi parliament to remain in session in August to advance long-stalled legislation deemed crucial to political reconciliation. "My understanding is at this juncture they're going to take August off, but you know, they may change their minds," said White House press secretary Tony Snow.

He added: "You know, it's 130 degrees in Baghdad in August."

Iraq deserves our help rebuilding the infrastructure we bombed apart, and that can be done through non-combat roles.

I can't fathom how any lock-stepping rightie would continue to support America remaining in a military occupation to assist a government that says --- we are taking August off!

Is Shrub planning a vacation in August too? :shrug:

1. It is not 130 degrees in Baghdad in August.
Maybe 100 to 105 on your average day. Just like here in Texas.

2. Average Iraq temps higher than 120
The average temperatures in Iraq range from higher than 48 degree C (120 Fahrenheit) in July and August to below freezing in January. A majority of the rainfall occurs from December through April and is more abundant in the mountainous region and may reach 100 centimeters a year in some places.

Either way, it's fucking hot! And we should not be there - in particular if Iraq politicians decide they don't want to be there!

3. The Iraqi government is trying to fight back because BushCo
is trying to steal their oil profits. This "vacation" is one way they're doing it.

4. Actually I can see why they would do this
Our government wants to teach their govt early on the perks of power while others die for you - once they get a taste of it they will love democracy, pretend to fight amongst each other, stay elected and on the dole while the only thing major they will accomplish is pulling the wool over the eyes of the voters :)

7. From Huffpo:
"The Iraqi parliament's vacation plans have been repeatedly criticized by U.S. lawmakers. But the U.S. Congress will be on vacation from Aug. 3 to Sept. 4, if it sticks to current plans."
