On being spoken to by God...

When I was kid in the Fifties and Sixties, the National Enquirer was a slightly different kind of publication; more like the Weekly World News with tinges of gruesomeness not seen in what was known as "The Press" and certainly not broadcast on what was known as "The Networks".

So of course, the headlines reverberated greatly in a young fellow's head and I shall never ever forget the banner facing me in 1964 or so:

I ATE MY BABY BECAUSE GOD TOLD ME TO...

This was followed, parenthetically, by the observations of the police and mental health 'officials' whatever that meant. the implication was that if you're hearing voices...youre nuts. Plain and simple. Remember that this publication was geared to that very special class of Americans not living on Park Avenue, the Hamptons, Beverly Hills, or Grosse Point. I never recall anyone making a very big deal out of calling these folks...well, crazy.

Now, we have God channeling every elected Republican...and not only do they ask God's forgiveness, but he actually GIVES it to them. They would produce the evidence, but it's a 'sacred trust'.

BTW, the next issue of The Enquirer was devoted to the story of the gentleman who cut off his own arm with a jackknife when it was caught in a harvesting machine. Of course, they showed the machine AND the stump, bandaged. Pretty neat...

Anyway, I thought I'd share this with the younger folks here - it's just one more symptom of the disease which has spread throughout the land.

5. My Freeper-In-Laws think everything that happens

is "God's Plan". Things are not going well for some of them - many bad decissions that were justified with idea like: "This is what God wants me quit this job" and even "God wants me to buy this enormous truck".

They don't claim to "hear" voices, but no less nuts. They do waht they want aand figure the consequences are part of the "Plan".

I also note that the lack of any long term planning for them or their children seems to based on the assumption that they are going to be raptured out of here before foreclosure.
