I don't think that Al Qaeda in Iraq is the same Al Qaeda that needs to be destroyed

There is Al Qaeda in Iraq... now. But, it's not the same Al Qaeda that attacked us on 9/11.

It kind of like the mafia, there are several mafia groups, but there isn't one central mafia family.

The Iraq War hasn't even phased the original Al Qaeda, in fact, it may have diverted resources away from fighting them.
