CDC Head Says She Needs Help From Veterinarians
WASHINGTON _ The nation’s top public health official on Saturday urged veterinarians to work more closely with human health researchers to curb contagious diseases.

“Thirteen out of the last 14 new infectious diseases that have affected people have arisen from animals,” said Dr. Julie Gerberding, director of the Atlanta-based federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“We need a health system that can do fast science, fast detection…fast and effective communication, and a very, very important piece of this fast system is the alert veterinarian,” she told the American Veterinary Medical Association’s annual convention here. » read more

3. Drives me crazy too.
Also the switching of monkey and ape and the fact that humans are apes but are differentiated all the time. Arghhhh. I have given up trying to change that.

2. Yes they are. Mammals, to be exact.
It's important for vets to note diseases going from animals to humans such as anthrax, rabies, malaria, and to find the vectors(like mosquitoes).

One thing that was solidly imprinted in my dissection labs of cats and rats was that we have all the same muscles, nerves, bones, and organs as all other land mammals.

So basically we are as complex as a mouse. Yes, we're bigger and we can think and do more things, but we're still mammals.
