12. Bastille Day is my dog's (Nick) birthday. He was 5 yesterday.
Nick's full name is Canicula de la Bastille. Canicula is Latin for the Dog Star (Sirius is Greek), alpha-star of the constellation Canis Major. Our dog Sirius died two years ago next month.

Also, one of my neighbors (a Democrat) has been flying the Tri-Colors all week!

Vive la France

BTW: Nick's fear of noises (thunder, fireworks, power tools) has improved dramatically on the Reconcile (dogie Prozac).

14. Joyeux quatorze juillet !
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way..."

15. Listening to Rush right now...

"Bastille Day"

There's no bread, let them eat cake
There's no end to what they'll take
Flaunt the fruits of noble birth
Wash the salt into the earth

But they're marching to Bastille Day
La guillotine will claim her bloody prize
Free the dungeons of the innocent
The king will kneel and let his kingdom rise

Bloodstained velvet, dirty lace
Naked fear on every face
See them bow their heads to die
As we would bow as they rode by

And we're marching to Bastille Day
La guillotine will claim her bloody prize
Sing, oh choirs of cacophony
The king has kneeled, to let his kingdom rise

Lessons taught but never learned
All around us anger burns
Guide the future by the past
Long ago the mould was cast

For they marched up to Bastille Day
La guillotine claimed her bloody prize
Hear the echoes of the centuries
Power isn't all that money buys

16. Merci for the vivid lyrics
and the great picture of the siege. I remember how I cheered during the movie when the French National Guard showed up and opened fire on the Bastille and not the people of Paris. O joyous day!
