1. Webb's for real. He's essentially unafraid of anyone in the Senate,
especially a glazed doughnut like Lindsay Graham.

11. There are soooo many republicon chickenhawks in DC
Not a one of the legions of republicon chickenhawks can stand up to a man or woman who has actually served the USA, and knows the truth of what war is about.

The republicon chickenhawk lust to send OUR sons and daughters off to fight and die for oil and munitions profits is so phony that all the republicon chickenhawks can do is -- cluck, cluck, cluck -- wimp out.

No guts, no honor = republicon chickenhawks

22. Lindsay Graham
He is not a chickenhawk, he did serve.

From his biography:
Lindsey O. Graham was elected to serve as United States Senator on November 5, 2002.

A native South Carolinian, Graham grew up in Central, graduated from D.W. Daniel High School, and earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

Graham logged six-and-a-half years of service on active duty as an Air Force lawyer.

From 1984-1988, he was assigned overseas and served at Rhein Mein Air Force Base in Germany. Upon leaving the active duty Air Force in 1989, Graham joined the South Carolina Air National Guard where he served until his election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1994.

During the first Gulf War, Graham was called to active duty and served state-side at McEntire Air National Guard Base as Staff Judge Advocate where he prepared members for deployment to the Gulf region. His duties included briefing pilots on the law of armed conflict, preparing legal documents for deploying troops, and providing legal services for family members of the South Carolina Air National Guard. He received a commendation medal for his service at McEntire.

Since 1995, Graham has continued to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and is the only U.S. Senator currently serving in the Guard or Reserves. He is a colonel and is assigned as a Senior Instructor at the Air Force JAG School.

In 1988, Graham went into private law practice and in 1992 was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives.

In 1994, he became the first Republican to represent South Carolina's Third Congressional District in Washington since 1877.

Graham is known as a leader who never abandons his independence or strays from the conservative reform agenda. He has fought to balance the federal budget, provide tax relief to all taxpayers, keep our military adequately funded and prepared, return control of education back to parents and teachers, and ensure the government keeps its promises to America's greatest generation.

Graham lives in Seneca and is a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

He serves on five committees in the U.S. Senate: Armed Services, Judiciary, Budget, Veterans Affairs, and Agriculture.

That's not to support his Republic blathering but to say he is a person who served and continues to do so. Where he got his views are another matter.

27. He served but never got his hands dirty.
Yes, I realize I am nit-picking about different degrees of what makes a chickenhawk; but I am going to do it anyway.

Graham never saw the ugliness of battle close-up, and even in Gulf War 1, he never flew any bombing missions, etc. He doesn't know what it's like to put his life on the line. Most of all, he never saw, to quote Wes Clark, "the pornography of war"; which would include civilian death, rapes, and destruction.

He obviously doesn't give a rip about what this war is doing to the institution of the Army and Marine Corp and what horrors it has inflicted on the military families.

He comes across as an Airforce desk jockey.

never, ever been and never ever will be.

And not least, Webb is respected.

2. Me, too! He really could have brought up the fact that he has firsthand
knowledge of Iraq, far more than Graham claims, because of his son, but he didn't even have to go there. Made Graham look like the sniveler he is.

14. the repeated mantra that Petraeus is the one to trust
makes clear that when bush selected him he made a deal

they would NOT be making such blanket claims of taking Petraeus' word for it if they did not already know exactly the script he will read

4. Lindsay Graham sounded so stupid that it wasn't hard
All Webb had to do was sit there and let people take in Graham's idiocy. But I especially loved when Webb said that Graham has only been to Iraq for the dog and pony show.

12. IMO, Webb was terrible. He let Graham take 90% of the mic time. Just
because Webb was right, he did not get his message out. He was being nice and Graham knew he had nothing, so he would ramble and Webb let him.

15. I blameTim Russert for not controlling Graham and balancing the
speaking time. Graham wouldn't shut the hell up and the moderator (Russert) should have made sure Webb got enough mic time to make his point without being interrupted. At the end especially, Graham was just blabbing and yakking over Webb in a pathetic attempt to drown out Webb's words. It was quite a display by Graham. All in all, I thought Webb did a great job.

18. Sen. Jim Webb (D-V) Navy Cross
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-Fantasy Land) Fundy Chickenhawk

Who's advice about running combat operations anywhere in the world would YOU take? Who would you trust your soldier son or daughter with to bring home alive?

The only reason Jim Webb doesn't have a Medal of Honor is that he didn't die from the wounds he received in combat.

21. I thought it was disgusting
timmy was completely incompetant
Webb tried his best to turn it into a legitimate debate with point/counterpoint but Graham refused to play and timmy enabled him

Graham NEVER said why he thinks it is just fine to abuse our troops and their families. He recited talking points about 'politicians should not define troop deployments' and both timmy and Webb let him get away with it.

When the CinC is not doing a decent job, is destroying the military, it is the OBLIGATION of congress to tell him - the executive who is supposed to carry out the will of the people, the bounds under which he is to operate.

That talking point is the typical 'redefine the topic' dodge. Webb's bill was not trying to dictate troop deployments - ie, saying how many should be sent where - it was defining personnel management constraints, essentially saying (disregarding the humanitarian aspects for the moment) that if we (the people) are going to provide resources you need to maintain them.

Only one predisposed to agree with Webb would call this one in his favor. He had a good message, good positions, but he let Graham out-blather him and someone not familiar with the facts would call it a drubbing by Graham. And russert was complicit in that, in my view.
