Allies Left Behind? Iraqis Who Helped U.S. Feel 'Betrayed,' Threatened with Death

Advocate Tries to Bring Pro-American Iraqis to U.S., but Says 'Politics' Get in Way
Kirk Johnson is the keeper of what he calls the saddest list in the world -- a list of Iraqis who worked for the United States but are now marked for death and on the run.

Johnson says that the U.S. effort in Iraq "would not have functioned without these people. And they risk their lives every single day to come through checkpoints that are routinely mortared and shelled and hit by suicide bombers and snipers just to come and help us -- because they believe in America enough to help us rebuild their country."

...

"If this president were to help these Iraqis," Johnson says, "it would look as though he is making some admission of failure on the part of the war -- that if the only place left for these Iraqis is the United States, then things aren't going so well."

These folks stood side-by-side with us and risked their lives to help America in Iraq. But Junior Bush is abandoning them, leaving them to face ugly deaths in the mess he created. And Bush is doing it to preserve appearances and cover his and the GOP's precious political asses. Daddy Bush never did anything even remotely that craven. Every day the screw-up is more apparent. Every day, the lowness of the Bush/Cheney co-presidency and their supporters in the GOP leadership becomes more stark.

damn people have to betray these guys before anyone catches on?

edit: More and more I'm beginning to think Poopy has a bigger say in what's going on than we think he does. This chaos we're seeing is pretty much a trade mark, isn't it?
