Seven Week Old Infant Left In the Road In Lebanon Ohio for Satan
http://www.fox19.com/Global/story.asp?S=6788989&nav=0zHF

There is disturbing news coming from Lebanon police, when a seven week old baby was left in the street early Saturday morning.

Around 2:30am, 9-1-1 dispatchers received a call that a naked woman was carrying a baby in the roadway on Miller Road Extension. The caller also told officials that the woman stated she was taking the infant to Satan.

When officers found the woman, she did not respond to the questions from the officers and she did not have the infant. The woman was identified as 29-year-old Shaunte Mitchell of Lebanon. She was transported to Bethesda Arrow Springs for a medical and psychological evaluation.

The baby was found in the middle of the road on the center lane strips, but had no injuries. The infant is now in the care of Warren County Children Services.

2. Ohio spends hundreds of millions on mental health
one would think they could do a better job serving the community than to let these kinds of things happen. Mental health programs in this state are over-funded and abysmal. They have some of the highest paid non-profit executives in the country running them, some earning million dollar salaries. And this is the best they can do...

We should care more about helping people than empire building or job security.

8. Article about this today
There was an article about mental health facilities in the Columbus Dispatch today. It seems that the key to receiving mental health care is living in the right area of the state. There are plenty of beds in NE Ohio, but not the rest of the state. Looks like there needs to be a complete overhaul of the system. It's really heartbreaking how we treat mental illness in the country...

4. Oh boy, southern Ohio - what a surprise
Ah, nothing like a good old-fashioned dose of Satanism to bring back memories of my boyhood in Ohio!

:sarcasm:

I remember hearing tell of all kinds of rumors of Satan-worship when I was growing up there. Of course my neck of the woods was southeast rather than southwest where Lebanon is. Regardless, sounds like this this woman is certifiably, cuckoo-bird, ape-shit craaaaaaazee with a capital K.

6. Sounds like post-partum psychosis
Mentally normal people don't walk around naked in public or leave their children in the street.

7. 'she was taking the infant to Satan.' - OT religion is driving people over the edge
This revival of fire and brimstone is proving quite unhealthy for many.

11. Thank goodness the child is safe!
I hope the mother is treated for her mental illness and doesn't get custody of the child until they know she is sane. Perhaps there are grandparents that could take charge of the child--or a caring foster home. Infants that age need nurturing--it is critical to their development.

Thank goodness the baby is Ok and thank goodness they knew enough to take the woman to a mental health facility rather than jail.

13. OMG, my friend did the same thing........
She was diagnosed as paranoid/schizophrenic in her early 20's. Meds seemed to work for several years. We met when she was about 30. A few years later, she started a rollercoaster period that only got worse. She was committed a few times, but released too soon. At the begining of these periods, even her best friends couldn't tell, but then a little thing here, a little thing there and we'd compare notes and realize what was happening. But we were helpless to do anything. We had no legal claim.

Many of her episodes involved "the voices" satan, angels, god with emerald jewels for eyes, etc. She seriously burned her arms with a candle she stole out of a church, because god told her to. The ironic thing is, when well, she was not religious, nor did she come from a religious family. She was ILL!!

I moved out of state when she was about 40. I learned from friends that she had had a baby and a couple of months later, at about 2am one Sunday morning, she walked naked several blocks in the snow and laid the baby in the middle center of Main Street. Fortunately, she was spotted and the baby was rescued. A few years later, my friend committed suicide.

I never joke about people being "crazy" or that there shouldn't be an insanity defense. I knew my friend when she was well, a devoted mother, intelligent with a rollicking sense of humor, caring and generous to all.

14. Sounds Like There Might Have Been Some "Controlled Substances" Involved
It sounds as though the naked woman might have been ingesting some controlled substances.

I'm glad she had the someone called 911, and that the child is safe.

I hope the naked woman is able to get the help she needs.
