Former Rep. Bob Livingston Urges Vitter to STAY STRONG!
Edited on Sun Jul-15-07 06:34 PM by Bluebear
We "need him!" = "we can't afford the Democrats to pick up a Senate seat!"

====

NEW ORLEANS — Robert Livingston, the former Louisiana congressman who resigned in the late 1990s after admitting to extramarital affairs, said his situation is not at all like U.S. Sen. David Vitter's, and he urged Vitter not to resign.

Vitter, R-La., acknowledged a past "serious sin" involving an escort service that federal prosecutors claim was a prostitution ring. Since then, he has stayed out of the public eye, as several Republicans, including prominent members of the state GOP, have offered support and critics have accused the family-values politician of hypocrisy.

In an interview with WWL-TV, Livingston said he had urged the fellow Republican "to pick himself up and charge forward. We need him."

Livingston was in line to be House speaker when, after admitting to affairs, he resigned during hearings to impeach President Clinton in 1998.

1. From one hypocrite in support of another
Because Party affiliation is more important than integrity.

If Vitter was a Democrat, Livingston would be boiling the tar and getting the feathers together.

4. "...more important than integrity."
What integrity?

Democrats might have some- but anyone who associates with Republicans surely doesn't.

That's just a fact- and amply proven over the past 7 years.

8. It would surprise me if all 48 other GOPer Senators
and each and every individual in the RNC haven't called Vitter ordering him back into their den of thieves in DC.

Why a story of a former Senator doing the same thing made it into the news is beyond me.

11. I think Dave is listening...
Edited on Sun Jul-15-07 07:13 PM by Hubert Flottz
I can smell Dave all the way here in West Bye Gawd...the boy is STRONG alright!

Edit...A little bird told me about some chatter he picked up...

It seems that Rep. Bob L. ran into Sen. Davey V. in a bar the other night, where mister V. had been drinking for several days, trying to forget his many troubles. As they were walking home from the bar Bob caught wind of a foul smell wafting from the direction of the orneryable mister Davy V. It prompted Bob to ask Davy V. the following question, "Gawd Damn Dave, did you shit yourself?" To which Davy V. mumbled under his booze saturated, stale, beer breath, "NO!"

They walked on a couple of more blocks and Bob caught a very STRONG and very unmistakable whiff of poop again and it prompted him to ask Davy V. again, "Gawd Damn Dave did you shit yourself?" Again Dave answered, "NO!"

Bob then reached around behind Dave and jerked his huggies all the way down to his knees and when he did so, he discovered that Davy's lower body was covered with Doo-Doo and his funky assed diaper was full of it too. This prompted Bob to exclaim, "I thought you said you didn't shit yourself!" To which Dave replied, "Oh, I thought you meant TODAY!"

I don't think Dave can weather the SHITstorm and govern.

As for Livingston, he's just spinning for Vitter. Birds of adulterous feathers flock together.

16. I'm beginning to believe we should be sending cases of diapers to his Senate office
Vitter is damaged goods. I'd wager more than half his staff wants out, and fast.

A case of diapers would make the ideal going away gift -- or, more accurately, "go away" gift!

18. Good idea.
I like that idea, It is kind of like sending Bush a Pet Goat, which I tried to rally the folks to do in the Kerry forum in 2004. Would have been funny! A goat shows up one fine morning at the WH, nicely wrapped in a bow! I think the others feared what Cheney might do to the goat...if he ever got a chance. As it turns out we know Cheney cannot shoot straight and the Goat would have been perfectly safe! Who knows he may have shot someone else by mistake! Guess you cannot change the past though!

20. Anyone sign Democrats Petition calling for Vitter to resign?
Democratic petition demands Vitter quit

By GERARD SHIELDS
Advocate Washington bureau
Published: Jul 14, 2007 - Page: 9A

WASHINGTON — State Democrats on Friday launched a petition drive that they hope will force U.S. Sen. David Vitter to resign.
http://www.2theadvocate.com/news/8503777.html

We the undersigned call for Sen. David Vitter to resign from his position with the United States Senate due to his immoral, unlawful and hypocritical behavior while serving the people of the state of Louisiana. ...more: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/VitterResignation /

Since prostitution is illegal in Louisiana, what he did was truly unlawful. Can he be tried? Also, if Vitter resigns does that effect the balance of the Senate?

I don't have enough posts to put this up in GD, maybe someone can? Thanks!

26. Instead of signing an online petition,
E-mail or call his office if you live in Louisiana. Online petitions may be fun, but they are worthless.

On Vitter's site there is even a form for e-mails making it incredibly simple. I categorized my e-mail as "Government Affairs".

Don't be shy!!! Tell Vitter's office exactly how you feel. The worst thing that will happen is that you'll get a form letter in your mailbox. Whoop De doo.
