How Many Here Have had Their Kids Ask "What is ED?" |
|
Thank you Big Pharma and our Corporate media! My 10 yo son has has asked me on different occasions over the past year about 'four hour erections' and 'erectile dis function'! This is due to the commercials that Big Pharma (we) pay for on prime time TV for Evitra, Viagra and all other forms of ED enhancers. Now I am not a prude by any means, but these commercials piss me off as much as the "feminine itch" ones.

2. I once got a laugh out of my dad because of that ... |
|
We were watching television and that commercial came on. The guy mentions priapism, and without really thinking, I just said 'holy crap, four hours.'
I think it surprised my dad so much that he couldn't help but laugh. :)

3. at 10 years old he is mature enough to understand your explanations |
|
-- or you could just tell him to shut-up, don't say those words again or you will wash his mouth out with soap. Like my mom used to.

I explained everything to both of my boys at age 5. Back then there wasn't such a thing as FOUR HOUR ERECTIONS!

13. Actually, it wouldn't be a bad idea for them to know about those four-hour erections. |
|
Males can get priaprism (an erection that won't go down) without having taken Viagra. Most guys don't know that if it goes beyond a few hourse (or four)they really need to get themselves to an ER. Permanent damage can occur if the situation isn't remedied. It's not a common occurence, but if can and does happen, so it wouldn't be such a bad thing if he knew a little more about "four hour erections."

And if they did ask I would just tell them. I don't find it to be that big of a deal.

5. If your son is like my two, he'll have had boners |
|
since he was an infant. My youngest always assumed Viagra was something to do with sports. We had a good laugh when he figured it out and I confirmed his suspicions. No shame, no embarrassment.
Some body parts itch, some body parts swell. There's pills your doc can give you for it. Big deal.

15. Hmm, I used to think it had something to do with dancing. I teased my |
|
husband about getting some Viagra so that he'd be able to dance. (Early commercials always showed an older couple together who, after he took Viagra, would start dancing together).
My husband didn't think it was funny.
I still do.

6. Nope, but I did have mine ask me |
|
"What are genital herpes?"
Thanks to the Valtrex commercials. I gave him as basic and straightforward answer as I could. But it's really not a conversation I wanted to have when he was 10.
What can you do? It's part of the world we live in.

11. I did and then had to explain to my 10 YO ... |

how his hearing aids were only 30% covered by insurance, but ED is amply covered...sigh! The system is evidently run by limp-dick me-first types.

12. Oh Fer Cryin Out Loud. |
|
If your kid is too young to handle the discussion, then he probably was too young to be watching whatever program he had been watching during which the commercial aired.
And even if not, big deal. Ya tell your son it's a medicine for a condition some men get as they get older, and be done with it.

14. I think maybe this was posted in the spirit of merely an example of the wanton (!) sexualization.. |
|
... of society en toto, for no reason other than corporate interests. Just an example. I could be wrong, naturally.
