Plane Wreckage, 2 Bodies Found in Calif.
Published: 7/15/07, 10:05 PM EDT

EL CAJON, Calif. (AP) - A sheriff's helicopter on routine patrol spotted the wreckage of a small, private airplane, and the bodies of two Navy members were recovered Sunday, authorities said.

Officials did not know when the crash occurred at the rural site and said they did not know the model of the plane.

The coroner's office would not reveal the victims' identities and referred questions to Navy Region Southwest Command. It did not immediately respond to a phone call seeking comment.

2. The SD Union-Tribune has a little more info
Authorities still do not know when the crashed (sic) occurred. The wreckage was spotted around noon by a sheriff's helicopter crew on routine patrol.

The plane's tail was broken off.

Both occupants were active duty Navy servicemen, according to the county coroner's office, which does not release identities of active duty service members killed in the county.
