Does the current RULING PARTY pay people to disrupt any boards of democratic discussion?:
I say, "YUP".

I wonder HOW MUCH those fukers spend, not only out of the corporate coffers but also and more particularly,...the taxpayers' treasure.

1. Do you mean "democratic" like "Democratic Party" or like "democracy"?

2. Probably not, they know that there are enough unpaid nitwits
with plenty of time on their hands to do the job for them for free.

4. On the contrary,
they earn their money when we don't confront them, not when we do. When we successfully counter their talking points, they've wasted their time (and the money that's been paid to them, if any).

If we don't respond, then lurkers may think we have no response and may end up being swayed by them.

We shouldn't let them hijack a thread by getting drawn into long drawn-out arguments, but we should confront them. It's a tough, but necessary, balancing act.

5. The Pentagon apparently does, or is at least planning to.
From a February 2006 article: http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article12060.htm
The War Department is planning to insert itself into every area of the Internet from blogs to chat rooms, from leftist web sites to editorial commentary. Their rapid response team will be on hair-trigger alert to dispute any tidbit of information that challenges the official storyline.

28. Honestly, I wouldn't think so.
They're much more likely to be in other forums trying to spread propaganda about how well we're doing in Iraq and why it's necessary not to "surrender" or "cut and run".

7. I honestly doubt it.
I think that a lot of DUers flatter themselves into thinking that their position is so unquestionably correct and that their logic is so flawless that anyone that disagrees is not only wrong but HAS to be a disrupter. You see it a lot in emotional topics (Cindy Sheehan, Immigration, Impeachment, etc). One side will define themselves as "the liberal position" and charge anyone opposing their stance as a freeper, troll, RWer, etc. It gets very annoying.

Most of the obvious trolls on here are here on their own accord. They do it for free.

it's a common conceit here that the only way people could disagree with you is if they're paid to do so.

9. I know PR companies do it for other sites
It's been a while since i researched this but I remember how PR flacks would infiltrate the forums for scientists and other groups, pretending to be a fellow scientist from some fancy sounding insitute that no one had ever heard of and then try to muddy the waters over any issue thier clients didn't' like discussed. One jouranlist got interested enough to actually start tracking the e-mails of these 'scientists" back to PR companies working for corporations with finacial interests in whatever topic being discussed.

The important thing to remember here is these guys don't have to prove any particular research is wrong..just claim it's wrong and then confuse the issue so much that people not directly involved don't know who's right.

If these guys would do that on forums about global warming and drug safety and so many other issues, why not here? We know freepers come here for free just to post comments that make "Liberals" seem every bit the capitalism hating, pro-gay sheep rape crazies they think we are.

BUT a word of warning. one shouldn't assume that every dissenting opinion is an infiltrator or every bat shit crazy comment can't come from someone who thinks of themselves as a Liberal. That kind of paranoia does thier work for them.

Just my two cents

12. There is no need
Plenty of keyboard commandoes who know everything and, of course, no one in the real world has a clue as to what they are doing sooooooooooo, we have the natural progression of a steady stream of hysterical declarations, demands for resignations and dramatic statements of withdrawing support from the Dems.

There is no shortage of know it all perfectionsists on our side, why on earth would anyone think they needed to pay someone to play that role??

15. Listen to Washington Journal and tell me there aren't Republican Phone Banks
You hear Republicans call in every morning reading from the same script, saying the same words, repeating the misaligned message over and over and over. Every day, ceaselessly, incessantly, continuously. If they do it there they do it here and they do it elsewhere as well.

24. Plenty Of Agent Provacateurs Out Here
Who said all "concern trolls" come from Freeperland or other right wing covens? I have long suspected left wing groups can operate here under the radar quite easily and can be far more disruptive than any Repugnican mole.

I personally have met several "professional bloggers"...from both parties. They're paid to get online and either write posts or jump into comment threads either to create support or disrupt. With the annonymity of the Internet, it's easy to create an identity...move to a new IP and start over again.

Politics is a blood sport...and with all the attention the blogosphere gets these days, it'd be stupid for a political party or movement to avoid stirring up some shit.
