So, what are we going to DO about the pending war in Iran?

There have been countless threads the past week on Iran. Everything from another carrier arriving in the Gulf to Bush swinging to Cheney's 'side' about military confrontation. Then, there was the bill where the Senate UNANIMOUSLY voted (only three not present)that Iran has committed war crimes against the United States, a bill written by the President's puppet, Joe Lieberman. Rheoteric is being stepped up. Half the US carriers are off the coast of Iran.

And, here we sit. This one is coming under the Radar with most of the US not even thinking an Iranian war is plausible. I brought it up with my dad, & he dismissed me completely. "That is crazy", he said. "We don't have the troops or the money...". When I pointed out that Bush & co. don't operate in the realm of reality, he said that would just be too crazy. "How would they do it?", he demanded. It isn't possible. My answer of a air campaign of bombing combined with nuclear 'bunker busters'was dismissed as beyond insane.

I don't think people can even now comprehend what we are facing with the Bush administration. It is too dark & too scary. The refusal of Congress & the American people to demand the end of this administration has only emboldened them. Disapproval ratings mean nothing to them. The only thing that matters is what they believe they can get away with - and to this point, they have gotten away with EVERYTHING! I fear for this country right now as I haven't feared for it ever, beyond anything I have felt these past six years. And, I don't know what to do.

So, what are the ideas of DU to protest to stop this atrocity?

Should we SHUT DOWN WASHINGTON? I will go to Washington. Should we all picket & camp in front of our Senators & Congressional Reps offices until they agree to impeach these lunatics? What would actually work? Can we get the numbers? Should we do a youtube campaign?

Post any ideas you have on this thread. We have to DO something. This is completely out of control.

Thanks

2. The 97-0 vote basically did authorize it
At least, Bush can claim that the Congress agrees that we are at war with Iran already.

Or he'll just proclaim it is within his scope as Commander in Chief.

They must be impeached. That is the only way to stop them.

3. have come to believe that Chimpy and Darth will do whatever the fuck they want...
...regardless of receiving approval from Congress or not.

These PNAC-driven global war mongerers need to be removed from office. I really believe that is the only way to stop the escalation of their "shock and awe" world domination and ultimate horror plans.

5. the Liebermann amendment did not say any such thing
the Carriers are on change over, as they do routinely every six months.

Your dad is right, a widening of the conflict is impossible.

6. I don't know - keep putting pressure on I suppose
On the other hand, it's possible that Bush is going to war with Iran regardless of what we do, which is certainly a depressing possibility.

7. There are two things that everyone can do.

First we can keep the pressure on our politicians. Several Republicans have changed their tune because their constituents have voiced their opinion. Second you can keep talking to your Republican friends and show them the error of their ways. All you have to do is change a few minds. Remember the last election was won by only a few percent.

8. If the masterminds bomb Iran
--as they can do if they want to--it will confirm to the public that they are insane. The American public has disowned them as greedy, lying, thuggish, incompetent, etc. but not necessarily understood that they are truly insane. Going into Iran militarily would make that crystal clear.

I hope we get the chance to try to stop it.....:scared:

11. keep on calling your reps and senators, and Pelosi this
must be drilled into their heads that we want impeachment and this regime is a threat to our security, whatever security we have left that is.

12. yes we must continue
even if it seems like we're just banging our heads against the wall. Whether writing letters or protesting on the street, everybody can do something.

When people understand that we are trying to stop madmen they might come around to impeachment as the only way...

10. I'm wringing my hands right now
I'm also fretting, worrying and pacing.

Later I'll be anxious and feel uneasy. I'll agonize, sigh, pine and then brood.

And pretty soon the whole day will be gone and it'll be time to begin anew....
