Come on, Obama, and Clinton, and Edwards, and Pelosi: All Aboard the Impeachment Train
by Matthew Rothschild

snip//

Well, let’s take a look here.

Lying to Congress and the American people about weapons of mass destruction so as to justify a war of aggression is not a grave or intentional breach?

Come on, Obama.

Eavesdropping on Americans here at home without a warrant, when the law says clearly that the “exclusive means” for authorizing such eavesdropping is via a warrant, is not a grave or intentional breach?

Come on, Obama.

Disappearing detainees and torturing them isn’t a grave or intentional breach?

Come on, Obama.

Using the U.S. attorneys to file flimsy charges against Democrats in an attempt to alter the outcome of an election, and firing those who wouldn’t play Bush League ball, isn’t a grave or intentional breach?

Come on, Obama.

Using signing statements more than 750 times to unfaithfully execute the laws of the land isn’t a grave or intentional breach?

Come on, Obama.

Outing a CIA agent to silence criticism of this hideous war, and then commuting the sentence of the guy who obstructed the investigation of the matter, isn’t a grave or intentional breach?

Come on, Obama.

And now depriving Congress of the documents and witnesses it needs to explore a whole range of Bush Administration malfeasance-this, too, isn’t a grave or intentional breach?

Come on, Obama.

And come on, John Edwards.

And come on, Hillary Clinton.

And come on, all other aspirants to that office.

And come on, Nancy Pelosi, too.

The impeachment train is leaving the station.

All aboard.

1. I promise you one thing -- once Edwards becomes President, Bush will be out of office.
As he is more or less a private citizen now I am not sure what he can do about impeachment. Once he is elected it will be too late.

2. He can do what we all do -- speak up. And as a candidate
he has more opportunities.

4. True -- but I think our best bet is pressuring Senior Republicans to pressure
Edited on Mon Jul-16-07 12:35 PM by emulatorloo
Bush Cheney to resign. That is what it took w Nixon. JMHO.

My republican Senator seems to be shaking out of full-on-support-Bush mode. So I keep writing him.

5. I agree, it's on the Republicans to escort them out of the WH

I know that that will make the 08 election a tough one to win but something must happen.

3. Honestly, I think our prez candidates and Pelosi are the LAST folks who
should be openly agitating for impeachment--it's unseemly and could be politically damaging. Their only involvement should be their votes in the House and Senate.

7. Unseemly? Did you see the Bill Moyers show over the weekend?
If not, please take a look. Here's the web page:

http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/07132007/profile.html

click on the link called "Watch Video", and see if you still have the same opinion.

Regarding Pelosi, she is violating her oath to uphold the Constitution if she does not proceed immediately with impeachment hearings. As John Nichols said, impeachment is the cure to the constitutional crisis we are in.

8. I loved that statement, and it's true, that's why impeachment IS an option.
I think the American people would back the dems 1000 per cent. That doesn't mean that the republicans WITH THE HELP of the media would not call us every name possible, but who gives a shit. Our country is at stake.

9. It's not a campaign issue. They can be asked what they think about it,
but it's not really something to run on--it will turn off the voters--that's my instinct. Same with Nancy--I think she should quietly allow someone (Hoyer?) to bring forth the issue in the House. Others can lead the charge, it's not necessary for our candidates to take the lead on this.

10. So why is Pelosi lumped in with the Presidential candidates?
She has an absolute duty in following the oath she took to uphold the Constitution to begin impeachment hearings immediately.

Again, I ask if you saw the Bill Moyers show.

11. No. I didn't see it, but I plan to watch it online.
However, I fully support impeachment. I think Nancy would be made to look like she was on a power-grab if she was the main force behind drawing up the articles. Best left to someone else.

13. That might be, and someone else could draw up the articles, but I sure
would like to hear her put it back on the table!

15. It'll Come From The Judiciary Committee
In '98, Gingrich avoided calling for impeachment...it was the other hyenas who did it. The articles were written and passed in the Judiciary committee...based on the Starr report. If Democrats can get a similar referal or criminal indictment that DIRECTLY implicates either boooosh or chenney then it's game on. Yes, then there is the requirement that Congress do its job and impeach. They're the "prosecutors" in this case and I'll trust John Conyers to know when he's got a solid enough case to move forward.

Another person to watch is Henry Waxman...whose been quietly digging up all sorts of dirt that will take a long time to sort out...from contracting abuses to violations of the Hatch act and tons of other real crimes against real people that can't be impeached.

George boooooshie isn't on the ballot in '08...his "legacy" is...and impeachment would be a major distraction for any and all Democratic candidates as their job is to make people vote FOR them rather than against the "other guy" if our victories are to be substantial and lasting. The focus has to be on all the Repugnican enablers of this regime and use the evidence gathered, along with their votes, to tie each and every Repugnican to this ugly invasion, the destruction of our civil rights and Constitution.

Impeachment cost the Repugnicans House seats in '98.

You are right...Pelosi getting too far in front of an impeachment charge will be portrayed by the corporate media as Democrats attempting a coup de etat..."overturning the popular election"...and that meme would resonate.

The problem has and continues to be that 17 Repugnicans still don't have the principals or spine to stand up to this regime...thus an acquital in the Senate could embolden this regime..."vindicate" it if you will...right as the '08 election season kicks off.

12. I offer this tune is for Feingold et al
Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.
