What if Maliki announced an oil sharing agreement that cut US Oil Companies out?
They are the best democracy we could set up. We wanted them to give the western oil companies 80% of all oil profits for at least 30 years, and we have tried to force them to pass this provision.

IF Al Maliki announced an agreement between Iraqi factions to share the oil, AND as part of the deal that they chose CHINA to have all oil exploration and distribution rights, that would OK since they are free democracy right?

2. All animals are equal. But some animals are more equal than others
to quote Orwell's masterpiece, "Animal Farm". No, something tells me the US would be a teensy bit bothered if that happened.

13. Yup. If it happened, we'd never hear about it, only his tragic death (at the hands of insurgents).

6. it would be ironic ...
that won't happen though because the pro-US leverage is being exerted by the World Bank that holds mega-loans from Iraq.

fortunately, we have all the wonderful presidential candidates to show the American people right from wrong. I can't begin to tell you how many of them I've heard speaking out on this issue.

btw, you numbers are accurate ... I've seen estimates that run from 75% to 87% of Iraqi oil for the next 30 years. This is what's at risk and the Iraqi's are very aware of it. What's really sad is that Democrats are very aware of it too and have said nothing. How can they say they want to help Iraq when stealing it's most valued resource will cripple the country for generations to come and lead to poverty and much more violence?

9. The original proposal would have allowed the Oil Companies to determine when they had been repaid...
for their initial investment in Iraq --so it would have been unilaterally decided by private companies and could have gone on forever.

Of course it was rejected hands down.

If you are Iraqi, you are probably happier that the government didn't pass such a deal and would rather the oil remain in the ground until the US troops leave.

7. I am betting this idea has already been floated in the Iraqi Govt and not reported by US MSM
After all we expect them to pass laws we write for them, not come up with solutions that do not please us, right?

10. Then The Puppetmasters Have Just Set Up A New Curtain
Remember, once its pumped out of the ground, it's gotta go somewhere...like our gas tanks. This stuff has an interesting way of turning up on the "spot" market and we pay the "going rate".

Also...keep in mind, the longer that oil stays in the ground, the more manipulation the large oil companies have on the remaining supply. The greatest t threat of Saddam Hussein wasn't his WMD...but that he'd flood the oil market and bankrupt the big oil companies.

14. He would immediately be replaced
with a more malleable and obedient puppet. Then, either violently taken to the bosom of Allah or retired/pensioned to Dubai or Paraguay where he would live in luxury (paid for with laundered American tax dollars).
