tonight on Countdown
Countdown, Tonight
------------------------------------------------------

Iraq's prime minister was misunderstood when he said American troops could leave "any time they want," an aide said Sunday, as politicians moved to end a pair of boycotts holding up work on crucial political reforms sought by Washington. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2003791057_iraq16.html

Former Rep. Lee Hamilton, co-chairman of the Iraq Study Group, said Monday he's "extremely doubtful" that Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki will be able to secure the country and allow American forces to leave any time soon. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19785888/

Democrat Jim Webb of Virginia and Republican Lindsey Graham of South Carolina testily exchanged views on President Bush's Iraq policy and troop welfare. An impromptu troop surge debate turned into a temper surge."Just wash your hands of Iraq," an animated Graham said to the war critics, including the Democrat seated to his immediate right. "History will judge us, my friend."

"This is one thing I really take objection to - may I speak? - is politicians who try to put their political views into the mouths of soldiers," Webb said over his opponent's interruptions. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/1153AP_Iraq_Dueling_Senators.html

The White House has refused to give Congress documents about the death of former NFL player Pat Tillman, with White House counsel Fred F. Fielding saying that certain papers relating to discussion of the friendly-fire shooting "implicate Executive Branch confidentiality interests." Reps. Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.) and Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.), the leading members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, objected to the refusal yesterday in letters to the White House and the Defense Department.

The rich got richer when it came to presidential fund-raising last quarter as the Democrats saw their big financial edge over the Republicans extend even to lesser-known candidates. And in both parties the financial gap between the leaders and the rest of the pack widened. All told, the eight Democrats running for president raised more than $80 million from April 1 to June 30, while the 10 Republicans raised less than $50 million, according to the campaigns, which released details on Sunday night of their fund-raising and spending. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/16/us/politics/16donate.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Lindsay Lohan has checked out of a Malibu rehab center after a stay of more than six weeks. She will voluntarily wear an alcohol-detecting ankle bracelet as part of an intensive outpatient program, said her publicist, Leslie Sloane Zelnik, in a statement. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19787458/

Paris Hilton not only reads the Bible, she also votes, but seems to have a similarly fuzzy passion for politics. While off camera, King asked Paris Hilton if she votes, according to a source. Oh yes, Hilton responded. When did you last vote, King asked according to the insider, who says that Hilton replied, "Last year." When King wanted to know which election she voted in, Hilton explained, "Presidential." http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19512569/

U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Springfield is still piqued that his hometown wasn't chosen to host the premiere of the upcoming animated film "The Simpsons," particularly since "Simpsons" creator Matt Groening is an Oregon native. In fact, he smells a rat, and has asked U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez to investigate, sort of. In a spoof letter from DeFazio's office to Gonzalez, he points out that Springfield, Ore., with around 52,000 residents, lost out on the right to hold the premiere to Springfield, Vt., which won a contest sponsored by 20th Century Fox, despite having only 9,000 residents. http://news.bostonherald.com/national/view.bg?articleid=1011315

That's some of what we're planning tonight.

And if she responded 2008. Ask her how often are Presidential elections held?

But of course, Larry King is a 5th rate tv personality.
