If the religious right continues to support Vitter they have lost any right |
|
they might have had to engage in moral critiques of people like me. My dad got married a little more than a year after my mom died. Honestly I wasn't all that happy about that. But I also knew that it would have been hypocritical for me to complain. After all, many people don't think I should marry.
It is one thing for people who actually consistently care about the sanctity of marriage to critique my right to marry. After all, at least they are actually being consistent. But it is quite another for a group of people to tolerate a regular user of prostitutes serving in the US Senate while saying I don't have a right to marry due to being immoral. So religious right, you have two choice here. Either you do care about the sanctity of marriage or you don't. Either you consistently care about immoral conduct or you don't.
A standard is a standard only if it applies to everyone. You can't say ok for me but not for thee. Just like I couldn't say to my dad support my right to live my life as I wish but I won't support yours you don't get to say Vitter is fine but I am not. So the ball is in your court. Accept Vitter's preening, I am the victim mentality and give up any right to critique my morality or be consistent and call for Vitter to quit.

4. They only care that YOU follow the rules they lay down |
|
Them following the rules is totally different. The morality police always want YOU to stop doing something THEY know is wrong. The never want to stop themselves from doing it.
